I'm always hearing that physical products add more perceived value than downloadable products. I can see how it would be easy to put instructional or niche videos on CD or DVD, but what about ebooks? Most ebooks are pdf files. If you wanted to sell them as physical products, would it be best to just copy them onto a CD-Rom and sell the CD as a physical product? And if so, would you just do a straight copy of the pdf file onto the CD or would you do something different? Or is it better to take an ebook and print it out and sell it as an actual book instead? Ok. Do you do anything special with the PDF files and bonuses such as making a fancy user interface or use some sort of E-Book reader? Or do you just copy the native PDF file and have the buyer simply click on it to open it? Mike |

I sell some ebooks at live events, and for those I just burn the PDF to CD. If you want to sell the ebook as a print book, you might look in to one of the Print On Demand (POD) services, such as CreateSpace.com. It is free to set up (or $39.99 for a Pro membership that lowers your cost per book) and your book is sold on Amazon.com as well as the CreateSpace site. Per book costs are higher than if you offset print a thousand or so copies, but your upfront costs are MUCH lower. And you don't have to store 1000 books or deal with fulfillment hassles. |

You could supply Adobe reader with your pdf ebooks. Even if it is already on their computer...a lot don't realize or know it. If the e-books are ones that you do yoursel and if you know abit about graphic or know of someone that does you can have a fancy e-book cover.

Another thing you could do is if you have a website you can give them a taste of what is on the cd...enought for a bite...so it gets them wanting to buy.

I create an autorun menu and then burn the pdf to a cd. I also supply Adobe Reader. Add in several bonus ebooks and back when I had an ebook website I would add several coupons. Since I no longer have that website I create an "If you enjoyed this..." page in which I point them to affiliate products of the same topic that I feel they may have an interest in. |

cage73, creating an 'If you enjoyed this' page, smart thinking! I'll definitely adopt that idea. Warriors, what are you using for labels on the discs? Surely you're not just writing on them with Sharpie markers?! |

As far as labels go, I create mine using Memorex exPressit Label Design Studio which came with some Memorex labels I purchased once. I haven't found a better alternative, although I haven't really looked for one. It does the job just fine for me. I would stay away from Sharpie markers, very unprofessional looking. |

Thanks for the info guys. I'm thinking of making some of my ebooks into cd-roms so I can sell them on eBay and Amazon. I just wasn't sure the best way to have the info presented on the disc to begin with. As far as labels, I'd try to stay away from those all together. There is a chance that the discs will heat up in the drives and the labels will begin to peel off and get stuck inside. What I do is I purchase inkjet printable CD-Roms and I purchased an inkjet printer from Sams Club that prints right on the disc. Here's a link: Sam's Club - PhotoSmart C5540 Mike |
