Can I buy a domain with a mising "t" and still have value in it?

Suppose I want the domain www.thelastthings.com but it isn't available, but the domain www.thelasthings.com with only one "t" is available.

Can I buy that domain and still be valuable in the future if I want to sell it? My plan is to write a successful blog in a specific niche with lots of followers and (maybe) sell it one day, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot right in the beggining.

Many thanks!

In my opinion if you were just trying to have a website for a specific niche so that you could sell click bank products then by all means I would say do it and that it could probably work with the proper seo to it. But, if you are seriously considering starting a legitimate blog which deals primarily with writing then I would not choose a half-assed website title which screams "I don't know how to spell". I would not buy that name and I would think that it wouldn't be profitable. You need something professional and fun so you can gain members that will take the blog seriously and not throw it away like a two minute jerk-off session. I highly recommend you just play around with words on a domain-buying site until you find something that sounds great and looks great. Remember that most people will judge you off the first impression they get from you so you might want to make the best of it and get something that works so you can make it profitable in the future. Hope this helps!

If you are building a successful site, any domain would work for you. If you trying to get a name that work for search engine, both will not be treated the same

The problem with misspelled domain names is that they are hard to remember for people.

They might even not notice that there is a T missing, so when they search again for your site they might not find it.

Very few domains carry value intrinsically. Yes a few do . . . like short one word domains that have commercial intent.

But that is not what you're describing here. Your domain, regardless of what you choose, will only be worth what someone willing to buy it will pay you. Selling domains and web sites is all about finding buyers that see value in them. If you build up a web site that gets loads of daily traffic and you are able to monetize that traffic consistently . . . well, that will do more for the value of your site than anything else (including the name).

I used to think this way. But there are several other factors that add value to a domain including Domain Authority, Page Authority, Trust Flow and Citation Flow. If you want to sell it on flippa than you're right you want to show a profit model in addition to the traffic. But many SEOs will buy it for the traffic potential alone or the metrics which will help boost their other properties. There's more to it now.

It's not so much the domain that has value, but the website attached to it. Create a high value website with a lot of traffic, yes, you can make some good money from it. Just hanging on to the domain then trying to sell it a few years from now, you might break even.

I wouldn't buy a domain like that unless you can find an illiterate buyer, lol.

yea, dont get hung up over the domain too much..

your site will be a success because you create content consistently and you promote that content consistently.

this will be why people come to your site not because of the domain.

In my opinion the domain name isn't that important as it used to be. If you want to target a specific niche with targeting a certain main keyword it will help a bit but it's way more important to build an SEO friendly structured website with valuable unique content that helps your visitors to find what they need. Also the value of your website depends on its quality and profitability.

Building a business around a misspelled domain is risky business in my opinion. Sure, buyers will care more about traffic and income, but the misspelled domain will hurt you I suspect.

You'll also miss out on a lot of direct traffic and Google will, in most cases, correct spelling on search queries, which will lead to more confusion.

I'm not sure what your niche is, but there's got to be a better choice for domain.

That's a tough one. I think if it's a niche specific site you're trying to create, it's better if you can get the exact name. Like @Mastery1 said, an individual may find you but then try to find you again and then end up on that original site.

Plus, there's always the risk of giving away referral traffic, Search Engine traffic, etc. to that original site with ppl mistaking that for yours -- and never coming back.

    My suggestion, choose another domain.

also remember that a generic domain like I think you are searching for can have 100's or even 1000's of folders (also called create a directory) inside your main domain as to make separate site off the main.

Of course each folder or directory having their own index.html page and or confirmpage.html or downloadpage.html in side of each.

So what I am saying a generic domain works good for multiple purposes providing they follow the same theme as the main domain name..

I have some generic domains with 100's of blogs, digital products, and redirects inside of folders.

    Hope this helps too...

  • Its not whats in the name its what content or service it can offer stays in the minds of the buyer.

Today 99% depend on search engine even to search the smallest domain name..

Its indeed true if you are already a established business house and want to move to web. Then name does effect .. if you starting up .. don't bother too much.

You have to choose domain name carefully because its something which you are not going to change often. I don't recommend buying such domain name because it will be difficult to sell it later on.

Although its content which decides how good the site is, why take a risk when you can buy other names with less cost. A little less fancy name would do because at least you will get the name that makes sense. Nobody looks at the domain name if the content is good.

    Hope it helps!
