I know that sounds like a dumb question, but I'm trying to figure out the main objective of press release submission. I know that press releases will get picked up by search engines quickly and this is the main reason why many people submit them. My main objective though is to get the press releases read by media editors and then have them publish them. With that being said... Is it suitable then to submit a press release to several press release submission services? Would that give your press release a better chance of getting picked up? |

Are you looking for online or offline attention? Or both? If you are looking for offline attention is this for a business that relies solely on local people to purchase your products or services? |

Press releases allow you to increase traffic to your business or your website as long as you write something that is newsworthy. Look at the search engines and you can see some press releases on the 1st and 2nd page of the internet. The idea behind a press release is to make it unique. For example I wrote a press release about a dinosaur it may sound stupid but I wrote it to promote Iggly Biggly which has a logo of a dinosaur walking with a surf board. You can google dinosaur walks with a surfboard press release and find it. Also you should submit to more than one. I got leads from that press release because I have my phone number and website listed.

Offline - the purpose is to entice the media to write a news piece about your business/website/product, to include you as an expert as part of an interview, or as a resource. Find the local publications by going to newslink.org and search by city. Go to each publication, radio station, and TV station and find a person to contact. With radio and TV look for the program director. If one of the TV anchors/reporters mentions in their bio that they are interested in a topic that your company fits, you can contact the anchor or reporter as well as the program director. A press release is not a promotional piece. It is not a squeeze page. Historically, a press release is to share with news organisations newsworthy information so they can write a story. With online submission sites, you can optimise Press Releases so they appear in Search Engines as well. |
