Made $100k+ From a Forum Thread (Selling Service) - Ideas to Promote it Further

by jon99
21 replies
I have this forum thread I created 2 years ago, that already generated $100k+ of revenue.

I do not have any website, and just provide the service through the forum, and visitors just place the order through wufoo form.

It is my main bread and butter online, and I am wondering how I can promote this forum thread?

Am I able to purchase paid advertising and link it directly to the thread URL? Will that be effective?

Facebook is one in my mind. Any other suggestions?

I think facebook will work best for your needs, also you can try native advertising platforms they deliver targeted traffic as well.

You've made $100K plus online and you're asking random people in a public forum (95% of which have never made a dime online) how to market and increase your revenue? Strange.

An established member like you is making a statement like this. This shows how much this forum has changed honestly.

Anyone, regardless of status, can't know all. I might be good in offering that particular service, but I'd still love inputs for improvements.

        Jon,

You're too sensitive - my post was not meant as a personal attack. All I said about the thread was that your post was "strange."

You've been a member here for a long time and I'm sure you understand that anyone can claim any amount of success and income they want. Having seen your posts on this forum for years it seemed strange to me that you were asking about how to promote this forum thread given that fact that you run (or did in the past) traffic and SEO services.

That's all there was to it.

This is a prime example why income proof is proof of nothing at all. Even if the OP made what he said he made (and I have no reason to doubt him), it's clear that he really doesn't know what he's doing.

This isn't a knock on the OP, who at least isn't trying to sell his "secret method" or "automated money pumping machine" (as the ad I'm currently seeing on this page calls it). But I'd guess that most MMO operators hawking this or that system are a lot like the OP here. They probably couldn't repeat their super secret system if they tried let alone teach it.

Kudos to the OP for trying to improve his business. Woe to the rest of us when judging products by the so-called income proof.

we're not exactly random here, are we..

its not like he spun the roulette wheel, dropped in on a knitting forum and asked his question..

lets not forget, he can also check our stats, threads, sites etc..

where should he go to get ideas? Its not like he is compelled to follow our advice.. he CAN decide to act or not to act on the ideas we present here..

I would start with the assets you have already accumulated as a result of your business from the forum thread. If you've sold 100K+ in revenue from a simple forum thread I'm sure you've developed a following and reputation. In addition you've amassed a nice niche email list that should be exploited. I think the idea here is to expand on your success within that niche and customer base. I would definitely develop a website or use a service like clickfunnels or similar to expand.

to answer the OP's question.. the first thing you should do is maximize your profits.
If you got something that works.. Then DO more of it.

If you got a traffic source that is working, then buy up MORE traffic.

#1. Can you bump your thread more often?
#2. Can you pay extra to get your thread featured?
#3. Does the forum have more ways that you can advertise on it? Many forums have banner ads that you can buy, sponsored / sticky posts you can do etc.
#4. Also, try reaching out to the forum owner. You may be able to get him to email all the members about your offer (basically a solo ad).
#5. Also contact the forum owner. You may be able to set up something like a forum sponsored interview with them.. They interview you where you give away tons of great content.. Or maybe even just tell the story of how you've made $XXXXXX on their forum and give tips on how other people can do the same.. and then at the end of the interview you can plug your service.

Any one of those can and will give you a HUGE increase in profits very quickly.

Next, as mentioned.. I would definitely work on getting your own sales letter on your own website that you control. You need to do this ASAP.

Facebook is one of those methods.
    Plus, you got google adwords
and Bing and top of all that you
    got solo ads.
Now depends on what field you are
    focus on.

Does Google Adwords even allow direct linking to a forum thread?

If the thread is already making you six figures then invest something and build a real website for your service. Like you I have made six figures from forums (selling a course) but there is nothing magical about the forums. You can put the same content (and even leave forum testimonials there as well) and convert there as well.

Some people will disagree with me but

NEVER EVER SPEND A LOT OF TIME/MONEY PROMOTING A PAGE OR SITE THAT IS NOT YOURS (unless you get paid for every customer - ie affiliate)

the third party site can lock, delete a thread/page or the whole site can go offline

You are able to double your income with a website. Return customers know where to find you, you can do sales and upsells and catch email addresses for a list etc.

Theres no excuse since you are making money to not build out your web visibility beyond forums.

yea, this is the best advice so far..

          INVEST in CONTROL

You want control, more of it at least....

i mean you got everything else in place..

          --a proven desired/needed service

          --sales copy that converts

          --converting traffic

now invest and get your site up

    Hi,

You should try some of the following to promote your thread...
1:facebook - setup a fb page for your service linked to your thread, Then join niche specific groups on fb and post useful info along with a link to your fb page(you can also automate this process).

2:post in niche specific blogs/forums again provide valuable info and put a link to your thread or fb page in your signature and posts(but not every post, its important not to spam but offer value, that can be anything from a bit of advice to sharing useful info you find online that is relevant!).

3:reachout to those that need your service on, classified ad sites, other forums that are niche related, yell type sites, etc.

4:paid ads using fb ads direct traffic to your fb page which is linked to your service thread.

These are just a few bread&butter ways that work and most of it can be outsourced to save time doing it yourself, hope that helps and all the best!

Are you providing some kind of services to your customers? If so then creating FB page is a good idea. Make your FB page famous, it's better than a forum thread. You can use FB paid ads to promote your own FB page.

Since it's on a forum, you can could post the link throughout social media platforms. You could use Facebook's ad platform, or you could probably even do Google Adwords with it. The link is obviously getting traffic, but if you're looking to get it ranked even better, submit to the link through social network to gain backlinks to it, just like you'd do with a regular webpage.

Use Google Display, so you can show the topic in blogs related to the niche.

Facebook or Google Display Network would be my first two thoughts. If forums are already working, why not scale what is already working with more forums in the same niche? Just my thoughts.

RealNinja has provided some really useful information in order to use the existing forum more effectively. I think you should analyze all those inputs which she had provided. I am quite sure many of her inputs will boost your sales very quick.

Apart from that I think you should also consider building your own website around that service which you are providing. It will help you in several ways. What is more, as you have made so much money selling that service, it is evident that you are well aware about that subject. Most likely your website will also become a authority one in that niche.

These are the two main suggestion that I can provide you.
