People currently doing membership sites

I didn't know so many people did membership sites. I launched my first internet business 8 months ago(membership site) and currently have a couple thousand members. Looking to chat with others who are running decent sized membership sites. How long have you been doing it, how many different membership sites do you run, in one niche or several, etc...

A few thousand people is pretty impressive! I do not currently own any membership sites of my own, but it definitely looks like a business model that is worthwhile for me to pursue.

I'm developing a service for Internet Marketers that will be sold as a subscription (membership) service. I'm sure I speak for many Warriors in asking if you'd mind sharing some of the methods you used to get a couple of thousand members?

    Thanks

      Hey Bill,

Cool, what is making you go the membership route over something else?(such as ebooks, etc)

I wouldn't mind sharing any advice I have. I don't know if it's the type of advice people are looking for here though because I'm not an internet marketing expert.(I actually know very little about SEO, building lists and all that type of stuff) This was my first internet project and I didn't do anything the way people here were doing it. I was referred to this site a couple days ago so I could learn some things on the 'internet marketing' side of things.

The one thing I've noticed from spending a few days reading a lot of things on here, is everyone seems to be selling a lot of the same stuff, and it doesn't seem that it is that much better than the next guy's stuff. So I assume it would be hard to grow a big membership site in the same niche everyone here is trying to do.

I made sure what I put out was hands down better than the content of current people in the market, and used creative marketing to make sure people knew about the product. Fwiw I didn't have the site seo'd or use ppc or anything to get traffic. I used creative methods because I didn't have a list built up or anything like that because I don't come from internet marketing. I just knew the niche really well and put out a great product. I think if you put out a GREAT product, people will buy it. It seems(and this is just an assumption since I'm not that familiar yet) that a lot of people here are just putting out products to put out products. They might have good content, but maybe not great content, so I imagine it'd be tough to get subscribers. Seems to me a better model for a lot of people here would be to try and dominate a smaller niche rather than just put out 'good' content in a huge/ultra competitive niche.

For me I really only want to go for a big site, so I set it up where I had that possibility. I think a lot of people aim for a small site that might get them an extra bit of money each month, but for me I'd rather go for something that's going to make me a lot of money, or no money at all so I can start over and focus on something that will. I guess it depends on your goals and what you want to achieve income wise, but if you have high income goals and are spending time putting out content for a site making you $1k/month, a better use of your time would be forgetting about that(selling it or whatever) and go back to square one with an idea that can make you that high level of income you desire. Your loss of time on a mini site if you have high income goals actually costs you much more than the $1k/month you'd be making.

The best advice I can give is put out a product because it will benefit people. If you put out a product because you want to make money, you're doing it wrong. That seems to be the goal of the majority, is they are putting out X, Y or Z because they want to try and make money. I think many people are forgetting that the reason someone's going to buy something is if it helps them. If you can produce something that will make someone else more money, you in turn will make a lot of money.

        Hi Mazuma,

Would you mind telling us what niche you're involved in?
Or maybe even better for you, add a signature file with your link to your member site.

You might get a nice number of new signups if you add that
to your sig file below each of your forum posts.

If you don't know how to do that, look above and to your left
and look for a link that says "User CP".

Click that and then click on Edit Signature.
Add a little advertising plus a link to your site.

It'll help you, and it'll help us get to know you better.

        Hope this helps,
        Sandy

By goodness Mazuma, I'd die for that kind of results. When it comes to membership sites, boy, I've blown chunks! I've been successful in other ventures but membership sites...just can't figure it out!

I've got a dog training membership site. All the content is original and produced by myself. I'm going to soon be allowing other qualified individuals to produce original content for the site.

The site is fairly new (within the last 6 months) and is growing every day.

Sweet collar on the dog Ty. Blings a bit.

How many members have you built up? What makes them stay on with you(pay each month) as opposed to buying a dvd series or something?

Can anyone direct me to some members here on the forum that have larger sized membership sites? I'm new here and know no one. I'd like to exchange some ideas with folks but don't know who to contact.

    Hi Mazuma,

Congratulations and much success to you. Just hang in with this thread. There are some very creative people here who have larger sized membership sites. Give them a few hours and I'm sure they will be happy to share knowledge with you that will also help many others.

I'm in the process of creating a membership site in two niches with little competition but willing buyers/customers looking for quality help.

Looking forward to observing the exchange of knowledge to take place.

    hey Mazuma -

I use to run a membership site a few years ago at AdsenseNiches.com . It was a nice little site and I only had a 100 members at $99 (capped it to keep the value).

I'm currently launching a micro-membership (continuity) program at ShapingBehaviorSecrets.com on Oct. 1st. No cap on that one so it should be a decent sized site. I'm shooting for about 2k members active at any given time.

I've got a couple more I'm launching in the next few months, one in the lose weight space and another in the driving traffic to your website space.

what's a "micro-membership" site? Are you expected 2k members at the same price point?($99)

    Hey Mazuma,

    Just have a little patience.

Because of how I conduct and run my life and business I can not provide names without first having their permission and/or know that it is ok with them. Just how I operate.

What I can tell you is that I have grown and learned immensely in my business from the knowledge that is shared here.

You can't force the "Big Dogs" to take notice of you. Just post your questions, treat people right and respect their time, experience and knowledge and you'll be surprised what you may receive in return.

It stopped because I stopped. I just did a big launch and didn't really know anything about continually adding new clients. At the time, I had a full-time job as a SEO Manager for a large .Com website and the site was taking up too much of my time. I knew how to get SEO traffic, but getting traffic through other sources was still a little foreign for me. I wanted to provide a great service, of course, but another one of my reasons for launching the site was to see if I could and to prove to people on forums like this that it could be done. It took my 45 days from concept to completion to launch the site and it sold out in 18 hours.

Looking back, I should've continued to develop the membership and mutate it into something of even more value. Lessons were learned and I no longer launch memberships that way anymore. I have systems in place now to continue to drive traffic outside of joint ventures, free traffic and SEO.

what's a "micro-membership" site? Are you expected 2k members at the same price point?($99)
It's really called Micro-Continuity (Russell Brunson term). Basically, it's a membership site that is only for a certain amount of time. My current project, ShapingBehaviorSecrets.com, is only a 3-month course. Benefit is that people don't feel like they're "locked" into a daunting membership site at $XX a month. I've also put in place "Micro-memberships", or as Mike Hill calls them, "Value Trojans" as a way to add more value, and revenue, from the project.

I've learned that no matter how useful your site is, it is ALWAYS going to depend on the user and how they user the information. If they use it, they'll find value. If they don't, then they won't, regardless if you have the most amazing site on the net.

I ran a couple of membership sites in the health niche which I capped at 500 people. (I sold them several months ago because to be honest I just got fed up of the work involved etc). I wanted to spend more time with my family

They were very profitable even capped
