A couple of Questions for Podcasters

For you podcasters and podcast subscribers, a couple of quick questions:

If you're a podcaster, how do you monetize your podcasts? Since it's only audio, how do you get people to "click"?

Are there any successful short podcasts, like 2-5 minutes per episode?

    Hey Kurt.

Do a search for "The 10-minute marketing show" This is by Kim roach. You will see where all her podcasts are posted. She seems really into the podcast thing and maybe you could reverse engineer it to see what is up.

    Hi Kurt,
I do short interview podcasts for business innovators radio that are usually no more than 10 minutes in length. I don't sell from the podcasts although my guest gets a link to their website etc with the interview. I use these as 'foot in the door' with influencers and business types I want to connect to and do business with.

I aim to have all my podcast episodes come in at approx 20-min typically covering 2-3 topics or 1 interview. The odd one has stretched to 30-min while others have come in at 15-min. I have a hard time with podcasts that go beyond 30-min, inevitably they lose my interest.

    In terms of commercial value...

    1. Way to capture new leads, in each episode we have a recommended resource, offer for one of our own products or giveaway (typically opt-in) - everything is back to my own offers at this point

    2. Guest podcast opportunities - now that our podcast is more established and has a following we get a tremendous number of requests to host guest spots/interviews...we take a very small # where we are either blown away by their business or information and especially when we have the opportunity to guest on their podcast or work a co-promotion deal with their list. I would say less than 1-10 qualify...but where they have worked, they have worked really well

    3. We post all episodes with show notes on our blog which helps overall content and automatically links in with the various sales funnels deployed off of the blog
