A Simple Way to Get Free Traffic

How to start getting targeted traffic to your website for free.

This is a pretty simple thing I recently tried just to see how it was going to work. I wasn't expecting great results due to the sources I was using but the end result was far better than expected.

You need just a few things
1- a website
2- a free sumome account (plugin)
3- several free Safelist accts

Now I know what some of the more seasoned pros are thinking here.."safelist traffic is for the birds" but this is more for the person looking to get traffic for free to their site and yes I agree that safelist traffic is low quality, if it has any quality at all, but it does have an end benefit with this particular method.

Sumome is basically a credit based system where you get credits for each visitor that lands on a page where you have the Sumome ads placed. The more visitors you get ,the more credits you get . Simple

When you have credits in Sumome, you can set up a share ad to run on other sites within the Sumome network, meaning your ad will run on websites in a similar niche to your own.

Within the share option for Sumome you can choose a specific category to run the ad and in most if not all cases, a sub category.
Example-you are in the Travel niche. So you pick the travel category and your subcategory has different options as well such as Accommodations, hotels, airlines ,roads and highways, tourism , etc.

So your ads will run on sites with those particular options.

So Here's what you do.

Set up accts at several safelist sites

http://trafficboostermailer.com/index.php
http://typageconnection.com/members/index.php
http://rockstarmailer.com/
http://punchcardmailer.com/login.php
http://runwildmailer.com/
http://redstagmailer.com/
http://mailersafelist.com/
http://runwildmailer.com/
http://magicalmailer.com/
http://goldenrosemailer.com/
http://gardenmails.com/members.php
http://dreamfuelmailer.com/
http://boxesoftraffic.com/

There are many others but these are the ones I used to get started. You will earn credits at each of these sites for the emails or ads you read or watch. Most of them you can open several different tabs and earn credits without even looking at the ads.

When you earn enough credits to send out your own free mailing, send out a mailing linking your capture page or your site, but be sure you are linking a page that you have Sumome set up on.

When other people from the safelist look at your ads they will be landing on your site and you will be earning the credits on your Sumo me acct.

Although the safelist is pretty crappy traffic, the Sumome network is a bit more targeted if you choose the proper category to share your content.
For each visitor from your safelist mailing, you will earn 20 -30 credits for your Sumome share.

In a little under 1 week I was able to earn over 10, 000 credits in the Sumome network meaning my ad was going to be seen on 500 other sites that were closely related to my niche.

Results-
Approx 10 hrs (I worked on it a few hrs each day )
This includes the time it took me to set up accounts in all the safelists
I had Sumome set up already but this only takes a few minutes
Clicking on ads or emails in each safelist and gaining enough credits in each to send my own mailings
23 subscribers total
18 that came from the Sumome ads
and 5 that came specifically from the safelist mailings

Not huge results for a first run, but I must say that I was switching my categories in sumome every couple days to see if there were going to be better results from a different category. I should have left it where I initially set it so I could get a better idea.

So overall, not huge results, but if your needing some free traffic and you got a little extra time on your hands then certainly give this a try. After you get the initial setup of the safelists and Sumome done, you can spend as little as 10-15 minutes surfing ads in the safelists to gain enough credits for your own mailings.

Another way to get credits to share more of your Sumome ads is to open a free account at http://rankboostup.com/
Rank boost up is a traffic exchange site that I only use to boost my Sumome credits and nothing more.

Simply sign up for a free acct and put your website info in.

Thanks for sharing this.. I commend your efforts, and thank you for sharing the results here.

Too few are willing to do their own experiments.

What I get from it is, you worked for 10 hours and then got 23 subscribers as a result?

Yes Michael that was the end result from the experiment, Now I must add that none of the 23 subscribers have made a purchase as of yet but it is 23 "potential buyers."

Over a year it works out at something around.. 8,000 subscribers?

And if we apply the $1 per month per subscriber earnings rule, that's a pretty healthy business.

Mike, the math just doesn't work.

10 hours to get 23 subscribers is 2.3 subscribers per hour of effort. so, to get that ~8,000 subs would take ~18,400 hours. Considering that there are only 8,760 hours in a year, if you could work 24/7, it just doesn't work.

And to get that $1/sub/month, you'd have to devote at least a few minutes to setting up an income stream of some sort, right?

That "rule" might be useful as a planning aid, but there's no law on the books or anything that getting someone to put up an email address guarantees $12/yr income.

I will join you in thanking the OP for posting his experiment and preliminary results. I'll be much more interested in the method if enough of those subscribers take the next step - do something that earns something toward that $1/month.

If they don't take the next step, then the time, effort and AR fees they use are all wasted.

This is the very reason why I failed in school.. and why I let someone else manage the numbers side of the business.

            My reasoning was.. if he was working 10 hours a day and receiving 23 subscribers.. 365 days a year.. 23 x 365 = 8,395

            All hypothetical.. and completely unrealistic..

I'd prefer to just throw some money at advertising.

            Maths makes my head hurt.

Just give me the EPC and I'm happy.

And my degree is in engineering, so even after *mumble* years, numbers still talk to me, sometimes to my own detriment and distraction.

I was just working on reverse engineering revenue projections for a project I'm getting started on to see if the numbers were realistic.

On the face of things, it looked like pie in the sky.

Then I took some conversion estimates and started to break things down into a "revenue per subscriber" SWAG, plug that into an estimated subscriber opt-in rate, and used the resulting guess at how many subscribers would be needed to reach the target. Then how many clicks to the landing pages at various conversion rates.

While I'm not ready to share numbers yet, doing the breakdown showed me that rather than being pipe dreams, my revenue goals for the project were ambitious but realistic.

    Hey Bob!

    Great post!

Personally, I have used safelists in the past with very little to no results and the main reason this is because it's full of other marketers who are looking to get traffic to THEIR website as well.

They're only there to click for the credits.

Nowadays, I stick to solo ads and mailing my own list - can't go wrong leveraging a list you built yourself, and leveraging a list that was built by a pro.

    Just my two cents!

    Have a good one

With all that being said guys, it was only an experiment and will post numbers if and when any of these subscribers take "The Next Step" and was a way for a few newbies to see how much work it takes to get subscribers using a free and untargeted method. Personally I am more into throwing some money at something and see what sticks.

It's a crapton more productive than what a lot of people do.. most just want a magic button to press.. and get burnt as a result.

That's how we find the stuff that works before anyone else does.. genuine digital marketers like you and I.. and others on this thread, experiment with technology.. and psychology.. so you never know what's gonna stick.

Yours is the kind of post that's been lacking on the WF for ages..

Of course, there's a small group who think making a reasonable amount of money online is "outlandish" and try to drive knowledgeable people away.

So it's refreshing to see your experiment.

Welcome back if you've been away.

Interesting experiment. Thanks for sharing. If someone will be able to work 10 hours a day during all 365 days only to receive a subscribers maybe he will get a result. But I'm not sure somebody will.

    Here's my equation:

10 hours of work, even at a ridiculously low $10 per hour = $100

    $100 x 23 subs = $4.34 per "Low quality" subscriber.

My average for "Affiliate Marketing" type keys on Bing are costing me around $2.60 per "High Quality" subscriber, while I'm fishing.

For me, it just doesn't add up, any way you figure it.

I wasn't trying to crap on you for posting a method with real numbers.

I just see so many people, newbies and otherwise, lose track of what really matters by looking at "vanity" metrics like page visits, subscribers, list size, etc. As you say, technically this free method "works", but it's a lot of work for little to no return.

I do appreciate actual content, as opposed to the article dumping that's passed for content lately.

funny that was the only feature in the sumome library I didn't use.

Actually I just removed sumome from all my sites..

They raised their membership prices before i could buy in by 50%,

not complaining, if they can get away with those price points, more power to them.

warning: they also removed their free lead capture feature for new installs and if you try to change the list you send leads to within sumome you'll get locked out (current free users)

I ended up going with thrive leads and I'm very happy with their service ....

I know, i know, a bit off topic but since we are talking about sumome, I believed it was important to mention.

again, sumome is a great tool and I was happy with it's features but there are other tools that provide the same level of quality at a cheaper price.

Not a bad plan...but if you're managing many different websites and niches, it seems like it could get a little labor intensive. Still, interesting way to gain some traffic.

I hate safelists with a passion.

They can destroy any email address attached to them. They destroyed one of mine and lesson painfully learnt. They are so spammy and worthless. It's best you stay away from them.

They are for newbies who know no better.
