Hi everyone, So many of us use WordPress. I just upgraded 2 of my sites to newer versions of WP, they were running 2.3.1 and I needed to upgrade them to handle a new theme (FlexSqueeze). In any case, my host (Bluehost) has SimpleScripts, and I believe a lot of other hosts have this also. You can use SimpleScripts to update your WP version and this gives you a valuable BACKUP. So if you get hacked sometime down the road, you can just do a one-button restore of your WP folders and database. I was nervous so I went about this carefully. I used cPanel to download my database manually. I then used FTP to manually download all of my directory tree. Then simplescripts: 1) Disable all plugins in WP 2) Use simplescripts to upgrade versions 3) Re-activate plugins. SimpleScripts does "incremental" upgrades. So I moved from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 on the first move. Hey, it gives me a backup that I can use later if I ever need it. Nice to have. Just thought some of you might appreciate this easy way to create a backup. I know there are also good plugins that can be used to automate backups. I will be using them in the future. |

Hello Chris, Thanks for the tip! I use WP-DBManager for backing up my wordpress blogs. You can quickly and easily have the plugin make a backup of your blog on an automatic schedule if you want. Need little plugin for sure! I can't include a link because my post count is still low, so here's the address typed out: wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-dbmanager/ - Kevin |
