Online coaching business - how to accept payment?

Hi all

I am setting up an online interview coaching business and want to accept credit card payments through my website (optimize press / word press based - and I'm a newbie).

What is the best platform to use for this for someone in my position? I don't have a business bank account so it would go to my personal bank account, but I would like to avoid exposing my name and personal details if possible?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

  • CoolRunnings,

Is PayPal available in your country? If it is, then read PayPal's terms of service and acceptable use policies. This is to confirm if you can indeed use their platform to sell your service; and

If you don't see any problem, then you can sign up for a PayPal business account (select solo trader / lone merchant) -- In case you aren't sure if using PayPal to sell your service would violate any of their terms of service and acceptable use policies, then you can contact PayPal to confirm this with them. You can do this right after you sign up and verify your PayPal business account ...

When all's well, you can then create payment buttons in PayPal and integrate these into your sales pages ...

Just Google or ask PayPal on how to configure your website payment settings to not require a PayPal account from buyers. This is so they can use their credit / debit cars to pay you; and

You can also send PayPal invoices to your customers after they sign up a booking form or something in your website -- They'll be able to pay using their credit / debit cards or their PayPal accounts ...

=>> Take note that PayPal doesn't allow a few countries to accept credit / debit card payments -- Contact PayPal and confirm with them if you can do this ...

    Hope this helps!

    Great, I've set it up!

Do you recommend using an ecommerce partner or just creating the buttons myself? I will eventually have an ebook so will need a way to automatically send the product after payment is made - is this best done through an ecommerce provider?

    Thanks

An ecommerce is a simple point and click way to sell a lot of products. If you're just selling one or two things I wouldn't bother.

You can easily use a Paypal "Buy" button to accomplish what you want.

The buyer clicks on the Buy button. They're taken to Paypal.
The buyer enters their credit card information. Their card is authenticated.
After the transaction they're redirected to your download link and can access their ebook.

You need to rethink your approach - you want people to trust you enough to send you money - but want to hide your identity from them? Buyers don't need full personal details but want to know who they are paying money to and contact details.

You need to establish a business bank acct in my opinion...if you use paypal you will need a business paypal acct (no biggie) and they do require your personal information.

There are other options such as having your own merchant acct - but that required the ability to qualify for an acct.

For questions about Paypal - go to the Paypal site and start reading and asking questions. ALL of the info is there. It may be a solution for you or maybe not....depends on what you are selling and where you are located, etc.

Paypal is the best solution to accept payent from a website. When creating one of my websited I implemented CC payment but then had to transfer to Paypal as it's really much easier to handel.

With wordpress, you can easily do this with so many plugins.

If you want to avoid exposing your name, you need to set up as a business rather than an individual. This will cost.

You could take payments through stripe, which allows you to do this normally, for free?

Optimize press has videos that guide you through the process of using PayPal for exactly what you described you want.

  • In any case you have difficulty in using Paypal on a long term basis, another option is establishing a merchant account possibly a high risk type.
