New Domain or folder on MY domain

I want to promote something and I can't decide whether to buy a new domain for it or just stick it in a folder on my own website like so: denagottlieb.com/newproduct.
Is it much more effective to use a special domain name? Whaddya think?

It all depends... if you want a long term "something"
with this, then a domain is the best way forward.
