Hello everybody, i am about to complete a post which is a 30,000 words post! It is more of a guide than a post itself. There is a lot of content, images, videos, couple of infographics and i have divided the post into chapters with a "scroll" Table of Content so it's pretty easy to navigate even if its a huge article.

My question is:

Do you think will be better to split it up into several posts based on chapters and topics or just keep it 1 one huge blog post all together?

Thanks everybody

Just FYI - This "30.000" denotes 30 (thirty). Thirty thousand is "30,000".

Split it up for SEO purposes and more importantly for Engagement purposes to keep it palatable for you Visitors

You might consider giving it away as a guide to entice people to sign up for your email list instead of using it as a post.

Splitting it would be good both for SEO and engagement as one of the member already suggested. It would also be helpful for user to get related info easily.

Go ahead and make the post . . . but be aware . . . no one will read it and the search engines will most likely ignore it.

The average word count for one page of 12 pt text for a typical ebook is 250 words. So you have a 120-page "book" that you're turning into a single post.

Who has the time to read that? And unless the content is very focused, extremely well written, and craved by your audience, no one is going to bookmark a post and come back to it time and again to finish reading everything.

IMO, your idea is a huge waste of effort. Of course, I don't know your niche, am not your follower, and haven't seen the post . . . so I could be wrong.

I think you would be much smarter to turn the 30,000 words into a series of bite-sized short reports (say 8 reports of 15 pages each) with a highly focused topic and a transition from one report to the next. Who knows, you might even be able to sell this series of reports if the information is good enough and the audience hungry enough.

Hey there! Those were the doubts i had.

We have a Free e-book that we are giving it away to subscribers in a PDF so i wanted to experiment a new way to keep visitors on the site as much as possible by writing this huge post.

What you say about the fact that only a really well written article can achieve that kind of engagement is really true.

It's a massive post but i managed to split it up in an "elegant" way through a TOC and also some other cleaver tweakings, pages within pages and so on and i find it pretty easy to navigate.

But i still can easily manage to split it up as you guys suggested which i think is a better idea for SEO porpuses and also because it would be really hard to find people that would read it till the end even if its a GREAT reading.

What kind of goal is this? To satisfy the search engines? How are you monetizing?

Are people reading and responding to your ebook?

Hey there. Actually i should have precised that the e-book is ready but i haven't launched it yet. Ironically is about half of the size of the post . So at the moment i am not able to tell you if people are responding or not the the book. People are responding to the new blog at about a 3/4% optin conversion rate.

I am planning to monetize the post offering our services which are closely related to the topic (of course i am giving readers other options as well ), products from ShareaSale and Clickbank and collaborations with the sites, mentioned in the post.

Regarding the goal of keeping visitors on the site i would say that time spent on a site is a really important factor. Google loves it and pays very close attention to what is called “dwell time” or “long clicks vs short clicks” which is basically how long people spend on your page when coming from a Google search. That is why i thought about creating a long, engaging (hopefully) post but there are also some counter productive factors that could compromise rankings for such a long post. i am still not convinced is a good idea..

I am not interested in selling it directly. What i am trying to achieve with the post is:

          - Establish trust for the new blog
          - Sales of my Services
          - Affiliate Sales
          - Rankings
          - Backlinks
          - Collaborations with bloggers/site/business owners
          - Subscribers
          - Post Comments
          - Shares

IMO that's kind of large for a single post, if you're using it as content id break it up.
But as others have suggested you may want to use this as a lead magnet to entice visitors to sign up to a list.

Splitting into smaller chapters sounds like a good idea, but make sure to link it all together properly, so whichever post your visitor ends up reading, he/she will be able to find the rest of the guide.

Yeah PPG, I'd have a hard time reading a 30,000 word post.

I'd definitely break it up into smaller-sized chunks.

    Otherwise, my eyes glaze over.

Sounds like something you could set up for a membership site man.

    Just sayin' lol.

People who care will in fact read all 30,000 words of your post. Don't listen to people who say they absolutely won't. But if, as you said, there is a ton of content including images and video, you'd do better off to split it off into sections. You're welcome to post all of those sections all at once, but don't make them part of 1 continuous page. This will overload peoples computer.

I have a 7,000 word post with 16 images. I condensed all the images as well as I could while still maintaining quality. It takes a little while to load, even on my above-average computer. I've strongly considered breaking the post up into 15 sections (its an intro + 15 tips) for people to read through, if for no other reason than to decrease site load time.

This also gives you the benefit of having more pages appear in google (in my case 15 instead of 1). This will give you more ranking opportunities and may be ultimately more beneficial.

As others have stated, if you want to keep all 30,000 words, videos, and pictures together as one continuous document, you're better off offering it as a .pdf ebook for download. It doesn't matter whether or not you charge for it, there are benefits to both approaches. But 30,000 words is reaching novel size, and is definitely something you could look at putting up on Amazon for example. ("FREE if you download it from me, or $0.99 to get it on your kindle" will drive up your subscribe rate while still trickling in sales from your dedicated following)

    Hey man,
Just a thoguht, if your post is extremely well written and informative you might consider if selling it via a paid-newsletter or a course/ebook would be a good idea, you might also give out a 1 or 2 first chapters for free for an email sign-up and sell the remaining part. I know for a fact that most people will not read such a long post if it's not something that they really need, and if it is then you might as well sell it.

    Hey there!

I personally would never read a 30,000 post!

    I think 90% of people wouldn't either.

There is some good advice in other posts, what I will say though is

try and keep it around 1500 words and use proper formatting!

    Have a great day!

Hello there. Would you read a book that is more than 30,000 words?

What about those people who red the novel from Proust (something like 1.3 million words (World Guiness Record for the longest book). Would they take the time to read my 30,000 words post? I guess not, they are 2 completely different markets

Yeah I would the book. But you have to remember "context". In other wards people are going to a Post with certain expectations...and one of those expectations is the Post will be a certain length that is typical to what they are used to

When they see it is not they will not follow thru, at least from my experience

I agree. This was one of my doubts too. People expect a certain length for blog posts but this is not a "normal post", is more of a guide/tutorial.

As you say, apples and oranges. You need to take into account the medium as well as the message.

Some research suggests an optimum length for an online article. This report, for example, puts it at around 7 minutes' reading time:

        https://medium.com/data-lab/the-opti...09b#.10ljqj9ir

Whatever you decide, if you want to keep the attention of your readers, it's worth remembering the maxim used by copywriters regarding long-form sales letters: always write as much as you need - but no more.

    Good on you!

Although, I would advice that you split it up. People tend to like to get their answer quick. If they feel like they have to read too much then there is a high chance they may look elsewhere for the same content.

30,000 is definitely too long! Unless the reader is knowingly going into it (eg. buying a novel or a textbook), I'd have a hard time believing they'll even get a quarter of the way before quitting.

    You can SPLIT or

make a FREEBIE to give to your list!

    or...BOTH!

I mean, you can make a tiny version as a blog post, and for having the entire article, which in fact is a GUIDE, they have to OPT-IN so it's GOOD for LIST BUILDING purpose.

    Try it. It worth.

After 500 words or so, you run the risk of losing your reader’s attention. My suggestion is to break it up several posts for your blogs per specific topic. You can break the 30,000 into long-form content of 3,000 word post and several 500 word posts. Then create a blog content calendar to post these articles on your blog. Get snippets for social media posts as well.

As long as it's high quality, in-depth content that is evergreen (or something that you would update regularly) and formatted well, that long post can help improve your search rankings and attract backlinks.

When you hear "long post", people usually mean around 1500-2000 words. I'm sure you'll agree that 30k words is a bit of a overkill for a single post?

My two cents: split it up into several parts to make the content digestible and keep people engaged.

This is also good for SEO since you can rank every page - every part of your guide - for specific keywords.
