How important are "Review copies"

I am new at the WSO stuff. Not new to making money online, just new to this aspect.

Some folks have asked if they could have a review copy of my WSO.

Just asking what you older more experienced folks think?

seems like standard practice to get reviews and testimonials..

that being said, there are a lot of freebie seekers who r looking to abuse your good nature.

set a fixed number and limit the Review copies to it.

I'll likely get flamed for this but I personally think the whole idea of review copies is overrated.

I agree. Just say no review copies and sell your product. If it is good the testimonials will come.

Not a huge fan of review copies either. To me, they're basically worthless since they're based on an incentive. I can't recall the last time I saw someone get a review copy and leave a bad review.

With that said, it's hard to make sales when no one has ever heard of you or knows you/your products. So, specifically here on the WF, I think reviews are necessary. I agree with the advice above, set a number and limit it. Specifically, try to get those with a reputation on this forum to review your product(s).

whenever I am browsing the WSO section and a product looks interesting and I start reading the reviews, I will just skip over all the reviews that start with "I received a review copy"

Review copies help the product owner to get the ball rolling in the product launching especially if he is new in the marketplace. However, it seems that nowadays people are using it as a way to avoid paying for the product. Majority of people who got a review copies are likely to leave "sweet" and "nice" feedbacks although the product quality may be otherwise.

I still see the value of giving review copies but instead of giving it to everyone who requested for it or anyone with at least 100 posts and above, perhaps only give it to reputable warriors.

Probably been overdone but still think it can add somewhat to your Sales proposal. Maybe very small but still...

I have never given a review copy for a WSO or any product I have sold in order to get a testimonial or to build authority. The only review copies I ever give are to proven and well established affiliates. As for customers. I have a refund policy which in essence makes every purchase a 'review copy' for the refund period. So if someone wants to 'review' one of my products, all they have to do is buy it. If they object to that, then they where never going to be a customer anyway and just want a freebie.

You will rarely see someone writing a bad review, if that person got your offer for free.

Review copies can be useful, but you should keep an eye on who you are giving them out to.

Established members can provide a genuine review, which may potentially help future sales, but obviously you need to be careful of people who are just looking for free stuff and leave reviews like "great ebook, I would recommend it to read"...

The WSO board is a good place to get reviews, before you launch your product in the real world.

That's how I've always used it anyway.
