Need help choosing the right offer for 4 letter domain

Hi,

My 4 letter premium domain dypb.com is generating a lot of interest from Chinese buyers.
I almost get a query everyday. The last decent offer that I received was USD 5K.

I am not sure how much is this domain worth. Should I accept the last offer or wait for a better offer?

Any suggestion is highly welcome.

Thanks.

The rule of thumb is that a domain is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I'm not sure if 'DYPB' means something in chinese (or English for that matter), but I'd take the $5,000 and run. I'd also be very weary of scams and sell thru an escrow service or SEDO.

Yes, as a matter of fact, the reason for this unexplained interest eludes me too. This seems to be generating some heat which piqued my curiosity.

Do you mean Escrow and Sedo are scams or have I misunderstood you?

No, they aren't scams - they can help you avoid being scammed.

I was almost scammed once. Just make sure you're not asked to pay any fees or anything of the sort upfront. There are a few unscrupulous elements out there who try to make a profit by selling you on the hope of a possible offer.

If you're getting $5K, then just go ahead, for that domain I believe you're getting a solid amount. Do let us know if it goes through!

Yes, the sources are legitimate. Transactions will be done via Escrow. Since this is not my bread and butter, I guess it wouldn't be unwise to wait for better offers.

4 letter domains bring some surprises, I read.

4 letter domains are actually quite valuable, so you could always put it on an auction site and see what someone else might be willing to pay as a comparison?

Also, as a rule of thumb - if someone is willing to pay you 5k ... that is his opening bid. Everything is negotiable, so you might easily be able to get more for it.

How about asking one of these Chinese buyers who contact you why they reckon your domain is so valuable? With this information, you might get some extra clues and can gauge the exact value of that domain a bit better?

A very useful comment indeed. What you say makes perfect sense. Thank you.

Do you have proposals only from Chinese buyers? I think 5K was the biggest one.
And what is the difference in sums with other proposals? Maybe they come from the same people. It would be interesting to compare with buyers proposals from another countries.

Yes that is the highest till now and no the offers are mostly not all from Chinese buyers.

You know what they say about a bird in the hand . . .

If I were you, I would take the $5K right now. You may find that this offer is bogus or just a come-on to get you talking. You could end up selling the domain for less than $100.

Like the others, I can't imagine why this would be considered a premium domain as it is not an English word or the initials of anything that most would recognize. Granted, I know nothing about the Chinese markets.

I will tell you, there are all kinds of 4-letter (LLLL) domains for under $100 available at the Godaddy auction site right now. That's why I say, don't be greedy and hold out for a better deal.

If the buyer and the 5K offer are legitimate, you'll be able to plow that money into your business and see substantial gains.

If the buyer and/or the offer is not legitimate, you'll be glad that you know right now that you should be revising your expectations.

Yes, I did come across this post. It sheds some light on the reason behind Chinese interest in dypb.com.

I own dirl.org and noup.org, never received an offer more than $100 for either of them. Both of them have from an English perspective a much higher value than your domain.

Use an escrow service or some other sort of Middleman and take that offer quick before they change their minds.

The OP is talking about a 4-letter .com TLD. An equivalent .org generally doesn't come close to the same value. In fact, you probably should have taken those $100 offers.

I know Chinese. If you know Chinese pronunciations rules, you will realize that the 4 letters dypb are initials of Chinese Pinyin for a wide variety of 4-character phrases or names. for example, dy can mean first, and pb tablet computer. It may be a Chinese company name of 4 Chinese characters

Unlike dypb which are all consonants, LUBZ contains a vowel u and that can limit the possible variations of pinyin. The best i can come up with is backless dress (éÂÅ"²èÂÆ'ÂÅ'è£Â...à ƒÂ¯Ã‚¼Â‰Ã£Â€Â‚(lu (reveal)) b(back),z(clothes). Also, lu can have the meaning of road, land, etc and bz treature
