Giving away free samples good for SEO?

Hey guys,

I'm finally almost going to do my free sample thingy on my website I think.

I have some products that I can make myself for pennies, so I was going to have a page where people can sign up to get them for free.

(I'm already building a list with a different free product.)

My goal for this one is to get links to my site because even though they're cheap to make, they actually are pretty cool and people will like to have one.

So do you think it's a waste of time or will I get links that benefit my site by doing this?

Will it help my site as a whole at all?

What is your goal with giving away the free samples?

Is it more traffic? then you need to be able to measure it

Is it more sales? Then you need to be able to measure that...did the customer buy something additional or come back later for another item?

Is it to get leads? their emails or phone?

Obviously you want something from them in exchange for the free samples.

Decide what that is, then you will know if its worth it.

For me, we offer a free 6 Piece Try Me Kit. They have to fill out an opt in form to get to the page to order it. The kit is mailed out with a special free shipping code. So if they use that, then I can measure how many people are coming back to order vs how many free sample kits we are mailing out.

    Good Luck!

The trick will be to get someone to link to the 'freebie' page on your site.

Just having a 'freebie' available does nothing to encourage a backlink.

If you can make the download button available only after the visitor "shares" your link on one of the social sites you might get a little traction, but I expect that you would then get more traffic from the social site than from any of the search engines.

all depends on the niche but I wouldn't do that for links. There are better ways

Personally I've always found the niche/people who typically go for free are the worst and more difficult to deal with.

To get as many opt-ins, you want to leverage on Facebook instead of search engine. In that case, SEO is not that important if you focus on getting viral traffic.

Create an independent page for your giveaway, something like a landing page. Make it highly professional and I suggest you to outsource it to Fiverr guy.

People who would like to get the free sample would have to complete 3 simple steps, such as:
    1) Opt-in to your list
    2) Click the Like button (to Like your FB page - create a FB page for this purpose) - OPTIONAL
    3) Share it

Then use FB ads to promote your free sample giveaway campaign. Install FB Pixel at your page to do re-targeting later. Allocate a daily budget for this campaign say start with $1 - $5 /day. Monitor the results and try different demographics/age group to find the most profitable segment.
