Are there any trustworthy marketing 'gurus' on youtube?

Complete newbie here. I've been watching a lot of youtube videos from 'gurus' about drop-shipping, shopify, internet marketing etc.

Unfortunately, every one of them is trying to sell a course, software package or a system hence I'm skeptical. I don't trust any of them.

I'm just curious if there is any guru out there, who isn't pushing/selling a course/software/system...and is just sharing free valuable info on youtube and teaching just for the fun of it or just to contribute?

Try searching for blogs about what you are interested in instead of youtube, there are many that write up some nice case studies about different strategies.

Gary Vaynerchuk gives out a lot of great advice on the AskGaryVee show. He plugged his latest book not too long ago but there is way, way, way more genuine advice in his content than anything else. He also has guests which mixes things up and is a genuine businessman, not just some guy claiming to make buck - he actually does.

Yes, I have watched a number of Gary's videos. This guy really is pretty sharp and very unique. Very hyper but in a good way.

And very passionate. Seems to have ideas that stand out among others. Highly intelligent dude

Kinghuman sounds cool. I've watched his stuff...but he often pushes software or other things that sort of turned me off.

I'm really very interested in drop-shipping via Shopify and there are a lot of of guru's out there on Youtube about that. (I like videos as a training method as its easily digestible).

I looked at Dan DaSilva's free youtube instruction videos which seem very interesting...but again he is pushing a course/system/membership.

For every boast that these guru's shout about in their videos (ie. 'I have a student who made $100,000 in their first five minutes', there are probably 2000 who failed to make anything at all). So, if you have any more suggestions ...

So you want to learn about marketing, I assume to make money, but you are "turned off" and "don't trust" marketers trying to make money? You don't see any issues with that?

Instead of being "turned off", why not look at what they're doing, which is providing value to gain trust, then selling something that (hopefully) adds more value.

I suggest you start your marketing career by figuring out what you have to offer others that would be of value to them. Value can be in the form of information or entertainment.

He is an affiliate marketer. Of course he is going to try to push software and his elite website. But here is the catch, even in him doing that you learn how to make money online.

You have to be open to all examples. Take the examples people leave and do that.

As far as KingHuman is concerned he also has a TON of free video ideas that are worth GOLD. To be honest I've bought maybe one thing that KingHuman promoted outside of his Elite website. It was the Arbitage Underdog and that is because I do outsourcing and that came with a craigslist scrubber that I found useful. Saves me time an energy when I was trying to broker services. So I got an actual useful tool.

But he has 100s of videos out there and there are tons of good business ideas and case studies.

He is partly the reason why I was able to quit my day job and now work online.

I tried 6 or 7 of his suggestions, FREE, suggestions where I didn't have to buy a thing nor was it asked of me and now I make money online. I found one that worked for me and made me the most with my time. I work 2 days a week. The 3 days I do missionary work and the other 2 I explore the country I'm in. In 1 1/2 year I've lived in 3 countries. So yeah, listen to the guy. You may just learn something.

Mike Koenigs of Traffic Geyser fame always shared some good stuff and also built several businesses around video marketing https://www.youtube.com/user/KoenigsMike

Love him or hate him. . . Jeff Johnson is / was one of the Tube Traffic guys (gurus).

Sure he is going to try to sell you stuff but you might pick up a few gems looking at what he's done.

You could just join the Video forum run by Kurt here on the WF. His advice is MORE than worth the price of admission plus you get other gems coming through from time to time.

Thanks for the High Voltage mention Ozi.

I think people that question the motives of others that sell info need to come up with something of value of their own, then they may understand better how much work it takes to create something useful. Not only does this take time and effort, it is also built on experiences learned over time.

If someone is going to complain about someone else trying to make money from their experiences, especially so they can make money, then I suggest they take the time and learn something useful on their own then give away their knowledge and experience.

Well its sad to bring this up. I think a lot of gurus out there really started being a real "guru" just becoz they wanna share, and then when they got well-known enough its when the commercial things started interfering. Its not easy to stay a pure guru I believe.

I have to agree with you Norah. One guy I was following on youtube was so genuine in his first few videos. Was really humble and shared some intimate details of his difficult beginnings (i.e. had done some jail time,,,was struggling with wife and kids while working on his web ideas etc. I could tell it was authentic and not just a sob story by his tone and demeanor). I was really enthusiastic about him. But then one day his videos took a sudden turn as he started to descend into the usual pattern of 'buy this system'. I'm not complaining about him, just explaining that I've observed the same characteristics that you've pointed out.

First of all, there is nothing wrong in selling knowledge. That's basically what all books are. An exchange of knowledge / information for money.

Secondly there's a difference between someone who knows what they are talking about and someone selling smoke and mirrors. Not everyone out there who offers value is out to scam you, but you shouldn't believe everything you hear either.

You should take advantage of any free information you find on a subject you want to learn. If the teaching and knowledge that is shared is good and you find value in it, you might want to take a look at investing into their course.

Unfortunately in this business a lot of people have a "give me everything for free" mentality. They want everything handed to them to prove what they are being 'sold' is real. And you know what ends up happening?

Those same people fall for the bullshit hype products because the only way those people will ever buy a product is if they are promised the world. And that's what they get... They fall for the shady sellers who are ready to promise the world for a quick buck. So the cycle becomes never ending. The people who complain about being sold something never have any real intention of doing anything with the knowledge they gain anyway.

The successful people in this business don't look at these situations in a selfish way. They see them as an opportunity to gain some valuable knowledge and if they like what they hear they are prepared to pay for the information required to make them more knowledgeable and experienced so they can grow their businesses. They don't have time to sit around and be upset that the world is constantly selling them stuff.

Don't be that guy who complains about free information.

Hey there your interested in making money online but you don't want to invest in yourself and your business?

There is a lot of quality free information sure, but a price on knowledge is there for a reason!

If you had a way to sell a house every day for $10,000 profit would you just say it willing on youtube?

No if you were smart you would sell a premium e course or a monthly membership on tips and tricks to achieve this....

Another thing to keep in mind, you don't HAVE to learn from "gurus". There are plenty of random guys who just make their living online without having fancy ebooks and $xxxx priced MMO products on sale...

And to be honest, YouTube is not the best place for learning. As agmccall said, search in Google instead and look for personal blogs/websites, which often have very useful case studies.

oh ... you should know that doing so is one of the best ways to sell their products, they also want to sell their products. If you've watched videos of them, I believe that you will get a bit of useful information from them is not much though. And finally if you are looking for places to share information that is not advertising to sell products there is also a lot especially the forums, you should search and track

The problem with many eCommerce "gurus" is, that they didn't have any longterm business at all. Many of these made money for a few weeks or months but nothing more. All they think they need is a nice screenshot of earnings and then continue to make the real money with coachings.

I have been in eCommerce for 1.5 years now and I often wonder about the simplifications many YouTubers make. They praise very basic and common things as ultimate strategies. Be careful on who you trust there, but like said before, if you want absolute HQ content covering all topics it is hard to stay free all the time.

Sure, as long as you keep in mind that, by definition, a 'marketing guru' is someone expert at turning your money into their money. Rarely are you going to get the whole enchilada for free.

    Here's a food analogy...

You go to a restaurant and eat a dish that blows your mind. You want to cook it for yourself. So you ask for the recipe, and the chef gladly tells you what the ingredients are. Now it's up to you to figure out how much of each ingredient, in what order and using which methods.

So you look online, and find a YT video by another chef making something similar. He does a demo of his dish. But if you want the exact recipe, you gotta buy his cookbook.

If you're determined to replicate your new favorite without buying a bunch of cookbooks, you watch that demo again. Only this time you make a note of what goes in when, and you estimate how much.

You hunt through some of the recipe sites, again looking for similar dishes. Rather than following their ingredients, you make notes about what proportions they use.

Now it's time to hit the kitchen. You sketch out a recipe for yourself, and give it a try. Compare your result to what you had at the restaurant. You keep tweaking your recipe until you hit on something that tastes the same (or close enough to make you happy). You laminate that final version, and use it every time you make the dish.

The truth is, that's really how most "real" gurus got to be gurus, regardless of their origin story. As for the fake gooroos, most of them are just aping something they copied, right down to the hero story.
