Blogger for the long term?

Hi all,
So, I have a blog on Blogger that consists of articles with 1 image per article and a domain is pointing to it now, and I would like to increase the income from it to a little more than a few dollars a month and I was just wondering what anyone here thinks of the platform to be used for the long term?.

I don't swear or anything and all articles are family friendly, and I make daily backups using the Export tool, so technically I could just import the XML file into a new Wordpress site and restore everything that way right?.

I've heard from people saying that they have had their blogs taken down overnight (completely deleted) so that is why I am just a bit worried for the future.

Definitely migrate from Blogger to a platform like WordPress in combination with your own domain name and hosting. It is easy to do and you can import your articles in bulk.

WordPress is intuitive and the choice of most serious bloggers. You need to have control over your business and with Blogger you don't.

good points guys. I actually have a yourdomain.blogger.com blog pointed to a domain so its like BLogger but at yourdomain.com.

I just hate paying for hosting, its one of the things that I always complain about.

Hosting is so cheap these days. Not sure how much you're paying but with the amount of blog posts you have, the cheapest plans will work just fine.

Forget about Blogger. As others have already suggested, sooner or later you may have problems with Google not liking your content and obviously you want to have full control over your website, so you need to own everything yourself.

You already have a domain, so you just need to get your own hosting (can be shared hosting) and just install Wordpress on it.

    Here's some help:

    Hey there!

    Good question!

My advice is to move from blogger as your not in control of this and you can lose everything overnight!

Sure it cheaper or free but you can lose everything because you don't own it!

Like steve said migrate to wordpress get your own domain and hosting and then you control it!

Also a good idea to back up wordpress and make sure to install security plugins

    Wordpress.org! Wordpress.org! Wordpress.org! LOL

Migrate to a self-hosted, Wordpress blog overnight, over the weekend or by Monday Really, long term wise it is your only option. Not only because you can have your blog yanked at any time but also for branding potential, for gaining trust, and for increasing your income earning potential too.

Looking forward to seeing you on WP soon!

Wordpress.com doesn't have HTML widgets like Wordpress.org, but yes, if you install Wordpress onto a server, you can set up ads like with Blogger.

The best thing about Wordpress that everyone mentions the most is that YOU own it (I know this is weird that I am saying this but I've known it all along).

I've heard of bloggers on Wordpress posting pictures with no credit back to the original creator, and the creator complained, but the blog stayed up. On Blogger, a click of a button and a blog can vanish.

I've just been reading alot in the past 3 days and that's what I'm seeing, so Wordpress.org FTW. Stay away from Wordpress.com

Also, I'll also mention that Blogger has the best uptime ever, and Wordpress.com is just below Blogger in reliability.

As for servers for ourselves, I go with Godaddy, Mediatemple, etc. Bluehost has a bad reputation for uptime. Check Google on uptime ratings of different hosts before you choose .

Yep, I can personally attest to this. I can remember 7 years ago just waking up one day and one of my Blogger Blogs was totally deleted without warning and without explanation ( EVER !! )

    Very humbling experience
