I keep seeing that Article Marketing is dead...True?

19 replies
Now I know that where there's smoke there's fire and all that good stuff but...

Is article marketing really dead?

I ask because I've never really gotten into it, I've been blogging, but that's
not the same thing.

I'm kinda talking out of my ass here because I don't really do any article
marketing myself and am going off what I've heard:

Is submitting an article to an article directory worth your time?

If you're gonna use article marketing...should you JUST use Ezine Articles?

Thoughts?

-Phil

    Article marketing is not dead. It really well worth it if you submit to correct sites. Guest posting is one of the best ways if you submit to sites which already having a good amount of traffic. It's not that hard to find a few good sites that allow guest posts for free or for a small fee. It gets you a backlink to your money site + free traffic.

      jipolis7,

      Thanks for the input.

      I agree with submitting to sites that are already getting a good amount of traffic.

      I guess a good way to see which ones are getting the most traffic is by going
      in incognito mode and typing in keywords related to a place where you can
      submit an article or something like that and seeing what pops up.

      Thanks.

    Article Marketing via Syndication is not dead. Getting a group who syndicate your Material on their Sites can still be very profitable.

    But Bum Marketing where you get direct traffic from submitting Articles to Article Directories is quite dead

    In my honest opinion article marketing is very much alive and well. I think that the difference between today and yesterday is that now a quality over quantity approach will get better results. This means writing less articles, but writing them better.

    Trying to create a high quantity of churn and burn articles may have reaped rewards in the past but this is now quite a futile endeavor as the sheer glut of articles being thrown out for marketing purposes these days means that they are becoming an less and less effective way of getting your business out there.

    Choosing your topics wisely and writing the content to a high standard will help your marketing efforts to stand out from the crowd. Make the articles you write worth the time of the person who is reading them by choosing relevant topics and writing them in an entertaining way.

    As well as this, chose your host sites wisely. Both in terms of their popularity and their relevance to the topics you are writing about. Developing a relationship with a quality website as a guest poster with an expansive and dependable level of knowledge on the given topic will reap HUGE marketing returns.

    So, with regards to article marketing, It's still alive, it's just gone through a few changes.

    Article marketing for ranking organically in search engines (aka Bum Marketing) is now a yard filled with tumbleweed (sadly). Phil, your time can be better spent (imho) than submitting articles to directories now.

      Hey thanks for the input James.

      I've found my quickest way to build an audience is via FB live and FB groups.

      I do like the idea of people seeing my name on multiple platforms when they
      Google me though, even if it's not my primary source of traffic.

      Know what I mean?

    Not at all and it never has been dead. It is only dead for those who don't know how to do it correctly in these times. It is dead for those that simply submit an article or two to directories, see no results, and declare then that it doesn't work.

    Yes. Article marketing done successfully requires at least five crucial elements:
    • High quality, relevant and timely articles that carry good value;
    • An audience that is interested in the subject and engaged in learning or wanting to know something in the niche;
    • Professionalism, good grammar, the appearance of authority in the article itself;
    • Referencing somehow (link, resource box, referral, etc) where the reader can go for further information in the niche;
    • Distribution. This may be the most important element yet is often given the least attention. You have to be pro-active in disseminating your article within the niche to places where the targeted audience will see it. You can't just rely on people interested in the subject finding your article. Work hard to put it in front of them, ideally in multiple places.
    The only ones declaring article marketing is dead are those that don't do it right and those that listen to them.

    Overall, writing articles is a medium for any stream of traffic. I use articles to promote to my followings, they share it which equals more traffic + backlinks without me lifting a finger.

    No, I wouldn't say article marketing is dead, but article submission sites have been hit by google in the past and this may have damaged the power of backlinks that you receive from it.

    Just build a following, promote articles to them... Its that simple

    People are quick to declare things as "dead" after that something is a few years old.

    With so many variables to experiment with (niche, audience, geo targeting, demographics, etc) it's hard for something to just die that easily. Those who say it's dead are just being impatient.

      Good pointment lol.

      Could just be a bunch of people doing it wrong because they're not looking at it as a long-term thing.

    Article marketing is not dead, but if you do it, really go for it and submit a lot of articles. All should be original.

    Guest posting also works well providing as has been mentioned, you are careful in your choice of sites. Pick only those who appear to be popular and current.

      That makes sense, I've been hearing that.

      Just wanted to hear from people that are doing this you know?

    When was the last time you read Ezine articles, or researched information using an article repository or directory? I think this is why people say it's dead like myspace--nobody goes there anymore. Instead of article directories those articles are posted now on blogs and social media networks.

      Not sure if I'm the best example.

      I've been going on Ezine Articles to see what others are putting on there lol.

      Anyone else wanna chime in?
