I made 100K today, added 10K to my list, landed a 50K a month offline gig...

And was invited to speak at a local college to a business class at which time I was given an honorary degree and a check for 250K to become a member of their staff!

Really?!?!?

Anyone else noticing an influx of these types of posts?

Someone all the sudden becomes uber guru over night and is suddenly an expert in every facet of Internet Marketing and business in general.

Not only that but they are the masters of "me too" - You can make a post about anything, create any product, and they just follow people around saying "me too" or "I've been doing that for months"...

I don't really have a point I guess...Just more of a semi-rant than anything else as I've been noticing this more and more lately...

In that case, it's all true

Seriously, I went to the apple store to pick up a new iphone and while I was there Steve Jobs happened to be visiting the store. So, I asked him if they had an opt-in page on their website and he said no...So, I offered to put one up and explained to him how marketing worked.

I get sick of the threads where people say something like:

"Help!!! I need to male $1,153 in the next 8 days or my dog starves".

This is a place to learn how to build a business. If you want to raise some quick cash, then flog something on ebay, mow someone's lawn, paint a house or donate sperm.

If they want to build a business then they need to stop posting crap on this site and learn and implement.

Nothing is easy. It can be painful at times, but eventually after burning enough midnight oil it is possible to build a nice business on the internet and living a much better lifestyle.

There are no quick-fix magic pills despite lots of people trying to sell you one, and lots of affiliates trying to make you believe they exist.

We all hope for one, but the reality is a little different.

Until the time comes when someone invents a pill that helps me stay young, have loads of energy, keeps the weight off, grows back my hair and at the same time puts money into my bank account, I will continue working hard and building businesses that I enjoy building.

Such a pill if it existed would take all the fun out of life, but even then there will still be people who screw up and won't even make a success at magic-pill-taking!!!

Sam, to a degree, I agree with you

It probably isn't as easy as many people make it out to be - But, it's not nearly as hard as some would lead you to believe

Forgot to mention the part about when you walked out of the Apple Store & bumped into Megan Fox....who whispered in your ear that she wants to be the mother of your children....:p

Talking about going into an apple store, did you hear about the following earlier this month! A New Jersey Apple store was hit by a smash-and-grab robbery that took only 31 seconds to complete...

You'd think that Steve Jobs and company would have a much more sophisticated security system in place to prevent these kind of events. Should be an interesting disposal of apple goods products happening somewhere locally or online pretty soon. So much for insurance rates etc. at that particular store...

Yes. IMO, if someone's just looking for an 'atta boy (or girl) they outta save that stuff for the off topic forum and their sig files.

If they want to detail their process (or even just part of it) so those that care about how they did it can get some value out of the post, then I say have at it.

Regardless, I generally don't view those types of threads. The only reason I looked at this one is because you wrote it and I was pretty sure a rant was coming. (Like I said, I've noticed an influx of those threads too.)

HEY - why do people always want to send that trash to the OT? There's a lot of us in there that don't really want trash cluttering up that place either.
Rather than tell them to put garbage in the OT - tell them to put the garbage on a sales page and run it over to a traffic exchange or something where it won't be noticed.

Hmm possibly. Or a combination of both.

Certainly, I wouldn't buy off someone who makes up income claims (hence for me I couldn't logically understand why someone would make such a thread solely to develop a following), but I see what you are saying.

You know, we're all having a good laugh over this but the truth is, it's a
            serious problem.

John Doe comes to forum...makes outrageous claims.

Jane Smith PMs him asking for help.

John Doe offers to mentor Jane Smith for $5,000 a month.

Jane Smith takes John Doe up on offer and pays money...in advance.

30 days later, Jane Smith learns nothing useful and goes to bitch-away dot
com and complains that she was ripped off by this guy.

The names have been changed to protect the innocent and the guilty
but the above is NOT a theoretical situation. It has happened here more
times than you know. The people who have perpetrated these frauds know
who they are as do the poor people who have been duped and those of
us who could have told them that John Doe was a crook from the start.

            I'll leave it at that.

Point is...you have to be VERY, VERY careful about what you believe
            around here.

So, here's some tips to help you.

Whenever somebody makes some kind of claim, if they don't use their
real name in the forum, ask them for it if you're thinking of getting
mentored by them. If they won't give it...stay away..far away. Most
likely, they don't want you to know who they are.

If they're brazen enough to actually USE their real name, they probably
figure that you won't take the time to do a little research on them. How
do I know? Because I've been there...trusting and stupid.

Go to Google. Look up the name plus the word scam.

If there is dirt out there, you'll find it.

Now I'm not talking about one isolated complaint like one of our trusted
members here had about a week or so ago or that BS that somebody
posted about the owner of this forum. You're always going to find those
just looking to start trouble. No, I'm talking about a series of complaints
that are a big red flag that something is wrong.

If you don't find anything, ask for references. If they give you that BS
about confidentiality, don't buy it. That's the same BS I was fed when
told not to let anybody know that I was working with this person.

            Big, big mistake.

I learned a lot from the experience.

Never, and I mean NEVER take anything at face value.

Demand irrefutable proof of their success.

Hopefully, this will keep at least one person from being taken advantage of.

        Jeremy -

I spent a couple minutes reading a 78 pages from Marlon Sanders. The first 30 pages were nothing more than proof. Photos, screenshots, etc basically showing us that we should listen to him because he has been there / done that.

When I am looking for someone to help me I look for proof. My personal trainer is 135 pound MMA champ, not a 350 pound couch potato.

So if you're looking for a mentor get proof before the pudding. Allso and this is just me, if the person is selling "offlline" services yet they have 13 WSO's I think they are making money online and not offline.

The best part may have been when I told the guy at the radioshack that my friend tried to nuke his phone with the battery in it, and the guy told me it wasn't the first time he heard someone tried doing that.

My friend stopped when he said it started to smell funny.

Now, I'm the VP of apple and own 51% of the stock!

Then, I got an email from the stompernet Guys about the launch today and emailed them back because their email wasn't formatted correctly...Needless to say Brad Fallon hit me up on my cell phone and I now control their email marketing for which they are paying me 50K a month.
    Seriously, that's all? Slacker...:p

You know jeremy i actually wondered what amazing product of yours i had missed to make you all that money so quickly!

Shame there isn't one but maybe one day soon hey!

But you do have a very valid point and it makes the people who actually have done those things or whatever look like all the rest which isn't good.

Jeremy, some of us rant on our blogs

Here's mine, posted a week back:

    = = =

    If They Tell You...

Last week, just as has happened many times in the past, I saw someone say this on a forum discussion:

"XYZ pulled in $1.3 million from {Product Name} launch alone"

... and my instinctive reaction is:

"Yeah? And you know that because:

    a. He showed you the wads of cash lying around his house
    b. His income tax returns filed with the IRS revealed that data
    c. You saw his bank statement, or viewed his account details

    Or is it because:

    a. You were gullible enough to believe everything you hear
    b. You are used to trusting someone's word based on no evidence
    c. You had an expert influence you with wickedly powerful tactics

Over the years, I have heard sad stories of so many people who were scammed out of their hard-earned money.

And the saddest part is that it could have been avoided by following a simple, three-word mantra:

    "Trust, but VERIFY!"

If they tell you they're making thousands of sales, and pulling in millions of dollars, watch if everything else they say and do is consistent with that.

If they tell you they have a decade of experience or more, see if what they teach you suggests those years have taught them valuable lessons.

If they tell you about their vast network, great systems, or large staff, ask yourself if the way they deal with you reflects it.

And whenever there is lack of congruence, watch out!
    = = = =

It links to another post from a few weeks ago, about "congruence" - which is
what Steven W. highlights in his post above.

    All success

It's all part of the fake it until you make it crowd. What happens is they fake it for a while, then actually make it, then they get overconfident and want everybody to know that they made it, but not know that they faked it.

Then you have those that fake it, still haven't made it, and fake being overconfident because they know that some of the above actually do this, and they copy them.

    Confusing yes, but sadly true.

Oh, just got a chime in that someone new signed up to my list.

What you forgot to do was say that:

      # It required NO work and NO skill at all.

      # You never had to talk to anyone or contact anyone in any way.

      # All you had to do was sit on the beach and watch the money roll in.

And of course in your signature you have a WSO which explains step by step your method which mysteriously is completely untested, unproven...despite your claims...and no one ever seems to make any real money at all using it.

There are a whole pile of people who want to claim to be experts after having one small success.

Experience teaches you that one success is most likely luck and is probably not going to be repeated.

The people who make it long term have endured MANY failures and enjoyed repeated sucess.

And those who are teaching successfully have helped a LOT of people make money and know from experience what will work for others and what is likely to be a waste of time.

It really is great that people share their successes on this forum and in many cases some of the ideas are really cool...even if they are untested.

But you need to be aware of both the business experience and the teaching/mentoring experience of people you take advice from.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

So in other words, it was a slow uneventful day at the office for you.

Kudos on starting this thread. Hopefully it opens a few eyes for the less experienced Warriors on how to separate the truth from fiction.

Well I was ready to congratulate you lol

Some people are so used to fabricating things on their sales pages, creating things that make people buy, and using a marketing mind... that well... they even carry this on into places that are not their websites...like here. Honestly, I never trust alot of these products these days, and what they "CLAIM" to do, as well as not trusting these people who "CLAIM" to make this amount or that amount. Another fishy thing you will notice, is that they also never include the whole page in the screenshot... What I mean by this, is even if they include some sort of screenshot, it's only the area that shows the sales amount, and there is actually a key you can use on clickbank and other websites to edit the page; which means i can literally change my stats to appear to be 14,000$ on monday, 1300$ on tuesday etc... So really- there are alot of people who do this, and presume the rest of us are as gullable as their customers.. But as you just proved, some of us are not>>>

BUt all of that aside, there are some people who really do such, and have real screenshots *(in full and not altered), to show for it, and one of those people I noted was "Eben Pagan"...when showing his stats, he goes through everything in a video, and doesn't alter anything, so there's one person who is at least believable and making that amount... from rags to riches... but of course it is more rare...

Personally I haven't made such huge bucketloads of money, and have previously posted elsewhere my progress, but I didn't sit there saying I met steve jobs either!

    Yea you got me...

I try to ignore those claims, like who cares anyway, unless they have something worthwhile to contribute, they're only hurting their own reputation when they make false claims like that.
