How do you setup affinity between your marketing site and product site?

Say you have separate websites for your blog/marketing site and different products. How do you make it feel as if they're related?

Imagine if someone signed on your blog and they'll get emails from another brand name/domain, because your product is sitting on another URL.

How do you establish to your audience (mailing list, social, etc) that it's one brand umbrella?

A lot of people will use things like Instabuilder, Thrive Themes, or Optimize Press, to name a few, and keep everything on one domain.

Another alternative is on your blog I am sure the content relates to the product so strategically placed inline links and banners will work. Also, if your products are digital products then the lead magnet for those products should be available on your blog site.

There are only two things that a person can look at to see if two websites are related:

    1) The URL
    2. The design / look & feel

The URL is simple. You can have the marketing site / blog on a different subdomain. blog.yourcompy.com and info.yourcompy.com could be hosting your blog and marketing site. Meanwhile, www.yourcompy.com would be your app / product.

How much attention people pay to the URL depends on the technical knowledge of your audience. Many people will not even look at the address bar. Which brings us to the second point, which is more important: the design and the look & feel.

If your marketing, blog, and product site use the same design, color scheme, and UI layout, no one will even stop to think that they are hosted on different web servers or provided through different services.

If on the other hand your colors are off, you are inconsistent with logo usage, and use completely different UI styling, people will notice a disconnect. If the differences are large enough, some people will not ever realize that your marketing site and product site are related.

You can recommend readers to another site of yours by addressing related issues, try creating some call-to-action to attract them to your site.
