Niche site vs broad site

Hi, I'm quite new on internet marketing and I decided to start writing lots of articles related with psychology/personal development tips niche (non-published). However, after writing 40-50 articles I started to read a lot of niche sites and I'm a little confused that probably my articles are getting too broad for this niche. Since I didn't target it for a specific mental health pathology I believe that I went too broad and will be very hard to monetize.
I would appreciate any suggestions

There are a number of reasons why you will see experienced Warriors suggesting that you "niche down" into a marketplace and focus on a single homogeneous audience and topic.

The main idea is this: you master one topic and learn it well so that people interested in the topic (prospects) will (over time) see you as knowledgeable and worth listening to. You may be seen as an expert, maybe not, but it's important to have the trust of your audience so they will listen and follow through with your buying recommendations.

Here's another very important idea: you want all your prospects interested in the same thing so that you can talk to your audience knowing that they all are potential prospects for the products/services that you're going to sell or affiliate with. You marketing is not wasted on folks that have no interest in the topic.

You mentioned the psychology/personal development niche. Those two markets are very broad and contain hundreds of niches. You probably can't be an authority in all of them. Someone who has self esteem issues is not going to be interested in your articles, products, or services that are targeted to predators (as an example) or people with memory loss. The point being, you will be wasting your effort on non-targeted prospects in some of you marketing.

You want a very targeted audience, to the point that every prospect wants the same thing. When that happens, you are 100% relevant to your gathered audience and every prospect is a candidate for what your teaching and selling. The more homogeneous (same) the audience, the more relevant you are and the less wasted your marketing will be.

Go for micro niches, if you want ideas go to Amazon ebooks they have many categories and subcategories, they even tell you which ones are more in demand.

Well according to these answers, I'll have to begin writing to a more focused niche. Now, what should I do with all self-help personal development articles? Leave them aside for another blog? I believe this is part of a learning process, however, I would like to know what should I do with all these well written articles

Maurok, if you're just starting off...yes you probably should niche it down, so getting
more focused will help I think.

As for the articles you have on personal development already, those are ASSETS.

You can use them in the future and sell them as a package or bundle them up as a
      bonus in the future.

Not to mention they can be lead magnets.

You never know when they'll come in handy.

      Good luck!

This is something I'm currently dealing with. I write about business and management ideas (very broad) and need to niche down.

I'm sure broad topics can work - but you need top content matched with superb marketing to make it in such a competitive area.

I think your site is going great. What theme are you using? I was looking to do something similar but in the self-help / personal development niche and monetize it the same way! That's why I stopped writting articles 2 days ago believing that it was very broad.

In my opinion, it depends on your goals, strategy and the particular market. For most people, small niches will likely make the most sense. I won't get into that too much because it's been well covered in the posts before mine.

But, there are still large/profitable large markets with weaknesses that could be exposed. But, you still set up specific funnels within the market for each niche or funnel.

Personally, I prefer larger markets to small sub-niches.

So you suggest to go broader and funnel according to the need of the person/visitor? Well I had in mind something similar 2 days before I stopped writing articles. However, I began to think that broader niches are affected by SEO. I'm stuck, just when I was about to begin to post

Strategy wise, if your plan is to build a site for search engine traffic, is generally recommend niching down. It all depends on your skills, abilities and strategy. What is the overall market you're targeting?

For example, I'm in the fitness market and I have funnels for building muscle, losing weight, shredding, making money with fitness, funnels targeting men, funnels targeting women, etc.

I have a lot of funnels... But I drive traffic by PPC. My visitors visit my landing page for an exact purpose (to receive a product or information), opt-in via email to receive the product or more information, then receive an automated email series about my overall product that is designed just for them.

It takes a lot of work and money to set up several funnels and to test with PPC traffic. But it's a numbers game once you figure out your your conversion and the average amount your customers spend.

Beats the heck out of building a site for search engine traffic and waiting around for them to change the algorithm at any moment and destroying your whole business.

Publish them on your site, link from them to your landing pages (the smart way;, i.e., not randomly but... Look into Silos for SEO, for instance).
