Best Way to deliver Digital Product: Membership or Download?

Hi warriors,

I've just created a new digital training (22 videos mp4 + xls/doc/pdf files) and I wondered about what is the best way to deliver it: through a membership site (with 22 integrated videos), or through a direct download (like a zip file containing the whole package) ?

On one hand a membership site may have a better presentation but forces the customer to always login and have an internet connection. On the other hand a downloadable product gives the customer a "real" product he can own in exchange of his money, like when we purchase a software.

I saw professional marketers using these 2 ways, but I don't know if there is one way better compared to the other. Personally as a customer I don't really mind when I purchase a digital training.

What do you think?

Thanks!
Remy

You can send your customers to a membership where your product is locked down and they login to get it. Doing this allows you to engage them on a continual basis.

As far as I know, membership usually means they're signing into some sort of subscription or on-going services/products. It is often used when users will want to up sell the current purchase or encourage further purchases to "go with" the initial sale.

As a consumer, I have to say that a 'membership' sign off would put me off something, especially if it is advertised as a one-time purchase item/product.

However, if I'm signing up to something, say 5 fitness videos for free with an on-going paid plan of exclusive goodies etc.. I'd be completely fine with it.

Of course, you could also go for something like Skillshare.

Do both and leverage your Assets
It will just add another income stream to your arsenal

Create Products and sell them outright and then Dump them on your membership Site
( btw, "dump" is not to infer any negative connotations here)

be sure to think about it becoming a torrent and free download whichever approach you use... also is there going to be more videos in the future? if so membership makes sense and if not the one off payment makes sense.

It doesn't matter what I think or even what you think. What is best for your customers?

Have you asked them what they prefer? People here aren't your customers and haven't been exposed to your products.

Whatever you decide, be sure to collect subscribers for your list. Then you will be able to talk to them, provide nurturing and care, and give them value that they probably won't expect. If you do this, they will open up to you and tell you what they want. You don't have to have a membership site in order to market to them in the future - although that may be the best platform for what you're trying to do.

in my experience, membership sites make sense for specific reasons that are mostly related to the type of niche that you are in, not necessarily the delivery of your products. I've written multiple detailed posts on the subject.
