Just curious if anyone has an opinion on this. If I was putting a PLR product on its own domain, would it be better to purchase the exact product name as a .net or a slight variation as a .com? I know the best option is to probably rebrand the product in the first place, but I'm just wondering which of those first two options is more preferable. Thanks.

Buy both. Make .com as your core domain name and install 301 redirect from your .net domain name. I think that would be a good investment from your side.

If you are simply putting a non-rebranded PLR product on a domain it really doesn't matter whether it is a .com or a .net.

The sales page won't rank so you will get no organic traffic.

You will have to send traffic to the sales page from other sources. Therefore the extention is irrelevant.

Buying both seems pointless unless you somehow plan to create a real web site on one of them. but again if you have not rebranded/renamed the PLR you could be competeing with 100's of others for the same keyword.

  • I believe .com would be better. It's too difficult to select a short domain name, it's true. I use random keyword generator + free domain name checker for this purpose. If your project get success you can buy .net later. Good luck!

I think it does not matter .com or .net. Both are best.

As you said yourself, the best way to do it would be to re-brand the product and then put it on a .com domain.

If you are worried that someone may use your brand, then you can also purchase the .net domain and just keep it parked.

I would always go with a .com first no matter what.
.com domains have more authority and are easier to rank.
    But buy both..

I would go with .com because smartphones have .com keypad shortcuts and most people remember .com brand than .net. But then what matters more is the content of the website and the name before the extension.

Why do you have to make a choice.

Buy both and direct to both.

I prefer .com but that's just a personal preference.

Go for the net if those couple of dollars really matter.

Go for the .com if you want the domain to look trustworthy and reputable

if your site is about technical, Internet infrastructure then go with .net otherwise go with .com beacause it's most trusty domain name.
It helps with brandability .com looks more authoritative, is more common, and is more popular than any other option.

why the hell keep coming and asking dot com and dot net.

when you work out how to be a real entrepreneur, you just get it done, and take action.

Did you know the 2 weeks, you are trying to work out the suffix to your domain, you could have been building a list, getting leads, and making money following them up.

This is novice marketer stuff. When you wake up and smell the coffee, the silly domain, .COM and .NET is not where you are going to make money. Its all in your marketing.

People could not give a stuff about your name. Just pick one, get it up and running, and TAKE ACTION. so many times I see 1 newbie take 4 months to pick a domain. Crazy, this is not professional marketing. This is newbie marketing, when you work this out, you will start to see results. A big lesson i am giving here. So hope it helps.
