I recently work as an affiliate marketer, I have my own opt-in website and also have a wordpress site... Which do you think is more important, driving traffic or posting content?

Anyone has any experience with that?
#content #traffic

So as an Affiliate Marketer you Need Traffic but if your content is not good then you can't get good traffic. As an Affiliate Marketer, you are working withing wth social media ,email traffic but when you want to work some real CPA network then you need to flow traffic on your website . it;s good for you to develop your content. and your content must need to convert your offer. So traffic and content is very important for you.

Any content that does not engage or attract traffic is worthless so the obvious answer is - traffic.

Both are equally important. There is no point driving traffic if you don't have good content. And there is no point in creating good content if you are not going to drive traffic to it.

Without content you will not get any traffic, so content is must to put on site or blog. Good quality content attract search engine as well as visitors.

Was going to post the same thing...

You can't choose between writing content or driving traffic. Both are equally important.

If you have no content, then what's the point of driving content? Similarly, you can have all the traffic in the world, but that traffic has to be quality and directed onto relevant content, otherwise you're wasting time.

So in essence, build up your content and then drive traffic to it.

      agreed!

but the first priority is to post excellent content, these content must provide benefit to your reader.

then promote and drive A LOT of traffic to your site.

p.s. don't forgot to collect their email address, or you are just wasting these traffic

      What Al said.

You are wasting your time writing content even crappy content if no one is going to see it.

"Build it and they will come" only works in sentimental movies.

You must send traffic to your content wherever it is.

It looks like you're not confident enough about your content. Content can (should) bring free traffic from seo, fb likes, shares etc. Why put double efforts? content and promotion all the time. Production of top-notch content with an intelligent website is what you need when starting out. It is easier said than done, however.

    Vinh,

Traffic and content are both important. As you know that traffic and content played a key role to being a successful affiliate marketer or any online business type. Each of them has its importance. But for me, traffic is more important. In general, we do everything to support for getting traffic and earn money. This is my own opinion.

Both are important. Without content you can drive traffic. Content attracts loyal readers which converts in to sales. However you have to do some steps to drive traffic because content itself cannot drive traffic.

You really can't have one without the other - if you're working hard to drive traffic to a website that provides zero value, your results are going to reflect that. You need to achieve a balance of producing very high quality content and spending time promoting that content to the correct audience.

It may seem hard to wrap your head around, but once you realize that people aren't going to read garbage, you'll understand why it's so important to have the product as well as the marketing taken care of when you're trying to get your ducks in a row in online marketing.

I think that people who get too focused on marketing end up suffering because their content is like an afterthought - you end up doing all this work to promote something that maybe isn't very good and ultimately the effort is wasted. You may get some results but not near as much as if you put in the time up front to make a really great article or website.

Posting content on a regular basis will also keep your website fresh and Google likes this a lot. Regular updates are an important thing for your readers.

For me, you need more content.

What's the point of spending a lot of money driving traffic if people don't know anything about you? Even if you're building a list where you can warm up your leads the only place where you build a real relationship and real trust is through your website and social networks.

I think what is important is to drive traffic to quality content you post, and this post should then, lead to your product page or landing page where your product is. I had way better results sending traffic to my articles instead of sending the same traffic directly to the landing page. Your content is also a "recommendation" to use a product such as the one you want to sell. When you give free information, your prospects will feel they owe you something (at least a "thank you for posting") and will be more inclined to accept your offer....

Absolutely correct - I know 7-figure marketers that create little to no content other than ads and sales funnels and make huge profit..I also know other entrepreneurs who generate significant content (videos, social and podcasts for example) that drive huge profit as well.

I myself do both, develop content but also focus heavily on optimizing sales funnels and developing profitable ad campaigns - allows me to scale faster and avoid putting all of my eggs in one basket.

I am agree with most of the comments here. Let me put it this way: if you were going to make a cup of coffee, and I asked you which was more important - the coffee beans (grounds) or the water, what would you tell me?

I'm guessing that you would say "both".

Same thing with content and traffic.

I'd say its more of a 60/40 split. With content being slightly more important.

If you don't have good sales content that persuades someone to buy whatever you are selling, then it doesn't matter how much traffic you send to that website, it won't work.

Traffic on the other hand is relatively easy to get if you have the money for it. So the barrier there is a lot lower than creating good content.

Focus on your content and it will make sending traffic to that content a lot more profitable.

    Here's my case...

I am in a similar position and I have opted for posting QUALITY content (ignoring what people search).

How did it help me ??

With the content (irrespective of the traffc), I built a brand !! The only thing I did was, I marketed the content to my same audience. The value I got is astonishing.

Let me put a more clear scene with my stats.

I hardly get 1000 views a day. Out of which many are still useless (views on posts that makes no sense to my current industry). But guess what, I get regular offers from companies to promote their products, services or to just place their banners.

They don't see my traffic. They don't ask for it. Only thing they see is that my site is filled with quality and some unique things that otherwise are not visible on other blogs. They see my blog free from generic content (content put just for the sake of attracting search views).

Its helping me on a very long run.

And if you ask about the earnings. Well I made 350$ just by posting one article last week. It had nothing to do with conversions or the traffic I get.

    Play smart with quality

For me personally...I create some 'specific' content just to drive traffic to a lead capture page. So I give some value first (which increases my credibility with the visitor quickly), then I give them a 'call to action' telling them why they should visit my lead capture page.

But most of my content is created to 'serve' my followers and my list.

On the flip side...one of my coaches (a guy who has made over $500,000 in his best year so far online), pays for traffic and just sends it to a 'highly' CONVERTING offer.

He doesn't create to much content but still manages to stay a 'self reliant' IM Entrepreneur.

I guess I'm swimming against the stream here don't blog or write articles.

I just drive traffic to my sales page.

That said I'm willing to accept that I am probably the exception rather than the rule.

To make this a semi useful post I would guess that you need some content first and then traffic. A solid content marketing plan to get people to your sight and then a way to reengage them when you put more content on your site.

All sounds like far too much hard work.

You can make a living with content if you can get traffic.

If you have traffic, though, you don't need content (as in blog posts, articles, etc.) to make a living.

Traffic that is interested in whatever you are sending them to and has the ability to pay wins if it's an either/or question.
