Questions regard google analytics

Hey everyone, so i've come along way in my business journey, thanks totally to Tai Lopez's 67 steps. (highly recommend it) I'm no longer jumping from shiny object to shiny object, instead im just creating, testing, creating, testing, tracking, analyzing. It's fun.

Anyways im using instagram and facebook to drive traffic to my site, its working fine, but the problem im having is when i open up google analytics its showing all of my traffic going to /www1.free-share-buttons.top. I have no idea what that is or why that is. Also what does a referral mean in google analytics?

Generally on web traffic the term "referral" means the visitor that came to your site from other websites.

In Google Analytics, referral is visit that came to your site from sources outside of its search engine. When someone clicks on a hyperlink to go to a new page on a different website, Analytics tracks the click as a referral visit to the second site.

    Hope this will help you!

    Hi Chris,

What you are seeing is called Referrer Spam. It's not real traffic and it can throw off the accuracy of your Google Analytics data if you do not setup a Referral Spam filter.

Most Google Analytics referral spam is created by ghost visits and can be prevented
with a single "Valid Hostname" filter.

Here is a blog post that explains what it is and how to prevent it: https://megalytic.com/blog/how-to-fi...analytics-spam

I can attest to dburk's accuracy. This is correct, you are in fact, receiving Referrer Spam from that URL.

Use htaccess to block the bot traffic from particular sites .. just use 301 to redirect it .. use another analytics tool like gostats to double check the source of the bot traffic.

I've seen a lot of referrer spam. that's what happens frequently to fresh websites. there's some helpful information on how to filter it in GA here:
    https://moz.com/blog/how-to-stop-spa...-referral-data

There are quite a few lists of known bot domains across the web.

Fighting bots is a pretty tricky issue.
If you have a small-scale project you can eliminate bots in GA
but if you have hundreds of visitors coming to your page hourly - it's best you start thinking about instalilng a device fingerprinting tools to help you eliminate all the scammers and bots. the most affordable one is fraudhunt.net . their plans start at $25.
there are quite a few vendors in this market selling fingerprinting solutions for $1k/mo and upwards. You can message me, I can help you pick the option if you need one.
But I wouldn't recommend that on a personal blog or a small website, unless you're buying traffic from ad networks other than Google and FB.
    Hope it helps
