Since Duplicate Content is a Myth, Would it Pay to....?

I have a site that I decided to just focus on ONE keyword phrase. So let's say the site is a Home Page and 5 related pages.

Since duplicate content is a myth...would it pay to make another site with the exact same content EXCEPT for the home page. And focus that site on a different keyword phrase (using the phrase in domain name)?

Then anchor text would point back to Home page for each site which would be unique and focus on different key phrase.

    Don't be lazy.

Create as much unique content as possible.

    It will pay off.

Haha, steadyon's reply was quite blunt, but I would have to agree with him. Although the dupe content is a myth to a degree, I think it would still be better to have unique content if possible. That way you could always link to the other site, which wouldn't make sense if the content is the same.

With IM, do that bit extra and it comes back 10 fold.

I've never heard that duplicate content is a myth. I've always heard that it's a bad idea. I'm open to enlightenment though, what do you mean when you say it's a myth?

It's a bad idea to have duplicate content on the same domaine.

Duplicate content among different domains is simply SYNDICATION.

The syndication concept makes since, but can't Google tell if you are simply syndicating content rather then trying to copy and past content from all across the web?

Some gurus here believe that you receive no penalty for putting duplicate content on your site and Google doesn't distinguish between duplicate content and unique content. I say that this should be wrong. Otherwise I could just take hundreds of articles from EZA and create an authority site on just about anything you can imagine in seconds.

I've been doing something like this for years, as many of my SLOBS users
have. The main difference is that we only post fresh new and relevant
articles, and we do it organically. Even works on Blogger blogs with no
      problems at all.

To the OP: I do something similar to your idea, but I use properly spun
articles, where keywords can easily be slotted in, and still make sense.
I don't want to post a link in this forum, I'm not sure if it's within the
      forum rules.

I tried this as an experiment and it went nowhere ... just my experience. I say go with unique content.

I spend hours on the internet creating original content. I am definitely not lazy in fact my family is not happy with my workaholic habits.

However, I purchased a domain name last year prior to understanding keywording. I also starting building the site. Last night I saw the exact keyword phrase I wanted was available for the domain and bought it.

I don't really want to tear down my work on the other site nor do I want to write all fresh content for the new one. Nor am I trying to "game" the system. This is very high quality content I have spent hours writing.

So I was wondering if same content different home page would be a viable solution so I can avoid taking down the one site.

Believe me I am a workaholic. I just don't want to focus a lot more energy on this particular project.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, no one is lazy here. I spend hours on the computer working very hard from the time I get up to the early hours of the next day 6-7 days a week.

I am actually quite surprised that you don't believe this is the case.

But how do you know, absolutely unequivocally know, that it's the unique content and not another factor like SEO, article distribution, or any one of a number of variables, that has led to your success? (And I congratulate you for that success.)

I think this gives you your answer, LBD...

Two domains with the same content, but different home pages, fine. Were it me, I wouldn't do any cross-linking between these two sites. I'd just let them compete against each other until such time as you can put unique content on both sites and link that.

Google WILL NOT ban or derank a site just because it has dupcontent SIMPLY because Google can't prove who posted the content first.

Imagine You post article A today but robots only see it in a couple weeks. Yet, another guy steals your article today, he publishes it and he gets indexed today, now.

You think Google will ban you because of this?

    Don't think so.

Besides, DupContent is one of the bigger lies of todays IM world. Just check how many dupcontent sites get ranked higher then yours in some niches...

Actually, you CAN do just that I have numerous sites that are nothing but articles from article sites, press releases, etc.

Keep this in mind - it's not an authority site if nobody links to it

Try it and let us know if it works! Could be interesting to know. I guess it all comes down on the other marketing you are going to do to market it.

I think that there is often confusion over this whole "duplicate content myth" stuff.

If I create an article and submit it to 800 article directories, yes, I will get "credit" for having those links, and it seems as though it certainly won't hurt to have links from all those different places.

Would I fair better if I rewrote that article 800 times? Probably, but I can't imagine the time it would take would be worth the effort! Thoughts anyone?

But it also seems that content on the site itself plays a big part. I wouldn't for example, take content from my site and shoot it out everywhere, I want the search engines to see that I've got keyword rich content that isn't duplicated word for word elsewhere.

You all keep believing that the duplicate content penalty is a myth. Those of us that believe in a duplicate content penalty will gladly rake in the rankings...

I know for a fact that google will not rank duplicate content in most cases. Tested it and proved it to be so.
