Does Telemarketing Work for Offline Conference?

I am looking at setting up a conference on SEO for local business, is telemarketing a good way to get customers? Ayone with experience doing this?

Do you mean telemarketing or running teleseminars?

I've run teleseminars with varying degrees of success. The best thing about it was that I always end up with a different lead generation product to give away either way.

Success rate so far? Varies by product being promoted. The best results have come from the simple lead generation teleseminars.

I am referring to telemarketing for the purposes of drumming up interest for attending an offline seminar/conference.

Yes Telemarketing works like a charm but you have to give them scripts etc. - you can pay $6/hour and if you want - a bonus structure to them....for appointments made for you - so they are creating 'warm leads' - teeing them up for you to close!

I am also looking for a good telemarketer. I have tried several and had mixed success. I have a pretty good free opener to get them warm but so far we have encountered extreme skepticism.

We are giving away ad space on a local directory site. Also trying to sell a DVD SEO course to the DIY people.

You are doing online conferencing with local business owners? If so, are you charging anything up front?

No like 30-40% conversion to appointments. Selling drops off but has a longer tail return period.

Just rolling out a launch of online conferencing (I use gotowebinar.com as it allows up to 1,000) to local biz owners - $97 entry fee.

And also a jv with one of my existing offline clients, virtual seminar in his area of expertise - $97 and I get 1/2 the profits of it.

I've emailed Kara to jump in on this thread - she even outsources 'telemarketers' to others so she manages them as I don't think I'm allowed to post her url for that service here (don't want to break da WF rules

)

I have sales reps and telemarketers and depending on the city she has some she books loads of free 30 min consults others she has a harder time

I have not used her to promote webinars just free consults her best ratio was 12 consults booked in 5 hours

Wouldn't it be better to have a seminar at a physical location as it would seem to lend itself to legitimacy and enables you to charge more?

Why not do both? That is what I do....that way you don't miss out on any market!

And whilst sipping cafe in south of france...it is easy to 'go virtual' on fun/vacation/some work!
