how do you go from working in the business to on the business

So i had a breakthrough last week and i figured out how to work on the business instead of in the business, meaning i could see the whole picture of marketing, sales, and delivery.

Unfortunately due to years of smoking weed my memory is shot, and i forgot basically everything i learned.

So how do you go from working IN the business to ON it?

    I mean what kind of an answer do you expect to hear? If you don't want to work "IN" the business, then outsource the work you do yourself, assuming the costs make sense?

    It's all about perspective.

    When you work IN the business, you're just going through the motions - completing minor tasks and thinking about issues on a day-to-day basis.

    When you work ON the business, you not only look ahead, but you consider how what you're dealing with now can impact you down the road.

    Hi: If you live in California then you can legally smoke weed after the approval last night.

    Working in your business means you are bogged down doing the day to day tasks, putting out fires, running the cash registers in a retail business or anything else minor or mundane.

    Working on your business means you step back and look strategically at your business. Consider your vision, mission, purpose. Give considerable thought to how to grow your business, how to do joint ventures with similar companies, how to make your company more profitable, how to get your existing customers to spend more money with you as opposed to your competition.

    The list of how to's goes on for quite a while, but I think you may be seeing the bigger picture now.

    Instead of doing the day to day operational stuff, hire someone else to do it, or systemize it so that it is handled by a process i.e software.

    Once you have freed yourself from the daily grind you can focus on progressively larger and more strategic opportunities in your business.
