Info Publishing and Blogs Question

Hello fello warriors,

I was wondering if anybody has any feedback on what works better:

1. Having your homepage be a blog, and have the content link to the sales page or...

2. Have your sales letter as the homepage, and have the blog on a sub-page

Any input is appreciated...

Steve

It dosen't really matter to much as it is all about content. I have both and they both perform quite well.

    thanks for the input!

i figure since the homepage usually has the most traffic, you would get more sales... but then again, having the homepage as the blog would increase the sticky factor... i'll test both thanks!

You haven't said anything about a squeeze page to build your list. Isn't that more important than driving direct to a sales page?

    works better for what?

    sales?
    time on site?
    subscriptions?
    clicks to affiliates?

every site is different, you should learn this tool and try them both: google website optimizer and do an a/b test

  • Think through your strategy a little more and I think you can come up with a good answer.

If you have your own product, then your blog is primarily a way for you to generate traffic. Blogs create traffic through gaining search position for a particular article, getting repeat visitors back to your site, etc.

Your sales letter is where you are making bank. The cabbage. The pocket jingle.

You don't want someone to come looking for your product and end up looking at your blog--it's like a new obstacle you've placed in their way between them and them giving you their moola.

Here's how I would, in almost every case, recommend you lay it out:

Main Page: Squeeze page (with an auto-skip feature for people already on your list)
Second Page: Sales Page (this is where they go when they sign up)
    Some other area: Your BLOG

This pattern has made me and many of my friends millions of dollars. It works.

Kevin, thanks a bunch for the input! This is what I felt the best route was, but wanted to hear what others had to say.

      Thanks!

Just wondering why you wouldn't put the blog on the root with funnels to the squeeze page. The blog will draw in searchers then its just a matter of getting and e-mail address.

Also, in your experience, should you send prospects who sign up to your squeeze page directly to a sales page or use the auto responder follow up to sell?

Just to add yet another Kevin to this thread this is what I think...

You want people to go to you squeeze page, right? and if you have them stop at your blog first aren't you distracting them from the ultimate goal of list building?

          Hi other Kevin

Yes, I want the opt-in but I should still be able to get it by using the blog. And when I say using the blog I mean having the being set up to drive visitors to the squeeze page.

That way you grab the search traffic as well as prospects who are specifically seeking your information.

I wonder if it's more difficult for blog pages to rank if they're in a sub-directory rather than the root?
