Can someone clarify: Google Algorithms vs EU Laws vs IM?

I just read this article and I don't know what to think about it:

https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...-its-algorithm

As a content writer, I can't say that I'm directly influenced or worried. However, if my clients are going to have a problem with it, then I'm going to be affected too. Right? You know how they say, when elephants fight, then the grass hurts, and I feel like an ant trying to survive the best he can.

I mean, there have to be warriors who understand and who can predict what's very likely to happen. The reason I'm asking for some clarification is actually quite simple. When you read the article itself, you got an impression as if someone from Google wrote it. Let's not reveal the top secret associated with Google algorithms because someone will try to take an advantage of it. Seriously? I thought that has been something the whole industry has been trying to do all of this time, with Google's blessing and within the limits of Google playground, of course.

At the same time, I don't think that Google algorithms will have some kind of a special form, treatment, or similar, in the EU. Yet, I can also imagine the worst case scenario where the whole EU becomes the black area on Google map. The EU lawmakers say, tell us your secrets. Google says no. Then, the EU sanctions Google somehow. Then, the marketers have limited options as a consequence. Yes or no?

As I said, this isn't my thing. Yet, from time to time, you have to try to get the larger picture, so you don't get surprised at the worst possible moment. Thx in advance.
