Does Press Release Marketing Still Work

I was wondering if anyone still uses Press Releases as a marketing tool. If so? what have been your results? Is it worth it?

You have to have a good angle that doesn't sound merely self-serving.

Write it in an interesting way. Use quotes if applicable.

Present it in the correct format.

Often, paid sites perform better than the free ones.

Depending on what you're promoting, it can still be of value to send the release to an actual publication instead of a large PR service. This works better for a local business.

In my experience, the key to getting your PR published is to give the editors that make publication decisions exactly what they are looking for.

I believe press releases are still quite effective if you have a newsworthy story and your release follows the standard format and guidelines that the PR services publish.

Put yourself in the chair of a PR editor that sees 100 releases a day and looks for reasons to eliminate all but one or two. Yours can not be
    • boring
    • newsless
    • a thinly disguised sales letter
    • or anything that resembles spam
Your copy should "jump off the page" as something that will interest and excite readers and give them valuable information about your topic.

I would focus on the paid services, as in my own experience, they are seen as more "legitimate" than most of the free ones and they typically won't push advertising along with your PR. They will get you better reach (more news outlets), but more importantly IMO, they will show the news editors that you are professional and willing to pay for your exposure which many spammers won't do.

If you decide to try press releases, consider having a professional PR writer do your copy . . . she/he will know better than you what to include and the format that gets the best results.

Press releases aren't a panacea for marketers because most focus on what the exposure will do for them. If I were you, and wanted to try a press release, focus on what the editor of a publication wants to see. If he/she doesn't like your approach, your PR will never see the light of day in the editor's publication . . . and what good will that do you?

    The best to you,

    Steve

Look at Elon Musk. All of his marketing is press related. The secret ingredient is that you have to be announcing something remarkable.

It's a tough marketing avenue to master, but all it takes is that one article to go viral to make it all worth it...

I had a press release yesterday and Ive had 5 bloggers respond wanting samples today. I usually get a dozen or so responses wanting to run the story or review my products.

I use the top PR company in the UK.

It's hit or miss. You must use a credible company or it has no chance whatsoever.

Using the press as a marketing tool has always been extremely powerful. In my own experience, press releases is the creme de la creme of marketing. A distant secondary method is submitting topical articles to niche-relevant publications.

Yes, press releases still work if done correctly.

Here is a video that might help you.

You can also outsource to Fiverr where there are freelancers willing to write and even submit to high PR sites for you.

Whether you use a paid service, a free one, or submit them yourself, the advice of a news editor friend of mine applies:

If you want news coverage, send me news. If you want an ad, buy a [bleep] ad.

The days of using a digital manure spreader to spam the release services for backlinks is long gone. The clueless clowns who used auto-submitters to blast the PR sites with keyword loaded spam for links forced the SEs to devalue those links.

One thing I've found is that it's often easier to get local coverage - if you have real news (see quote above). And once your local coverage hits the wires, you never know who might pick it up.

Your news editor friend is awfully smart and, alas, often ignored.

I have seen 'press releases' that announced that Affiliate Joe's redone his website. I, not being your awfully smart news editor, jumped up with sincere joy at my newly found knowledge that Affiliate Joe had changed from and html site to a WordPress site, which would give him the opportunity to post weight loss news as they'd happen!
