Where do you find really talented graphic designers?

Hi Everyone

I have been using a graphic designer for a while and she is getting a little too busy and her quality is slipping a little. I pay around $70 per hour for her work.

Just on the look out for some back up graphic design for digital marketing campaigns and i wondered where you find yours and if there is a reputable site online that I can find good quality graphic designers (not Fivver and those types of sites).

Recommendations anyone?

    Hi
Freelancer.com works well. You can find a many talented people there not only in area of graphic design.

      Hi,

I have used a few people on here, but I find it's hard to get a quality person on there as it seems like there is lots of cheap options and then super expensive options but not alot in the middle.

I have used a few people from Freelancer for admin etc and have a VA that I have found through there but finding genuinely good designers is a challenge, usually it's pretty hit and miss..

I second freelancer - you do have to wade through a fair amount of people that aren't that great so the higher your budget the better I would say.

The other option is to join a Graphic Design Collective type website or forum and scope out some good designers who are up and coming and affordable. $70 per hour is pretty low in Australia for a good designer - so if you can find a happy medium you'll be doing well.

There could also be some design freelance groups on Facebook too that you could check out.

If you don't want to look for experienced designers on Fiverr (because there are..) then I would suggest going to freelancer.com or upwork.com to look there.

I would say you should research well on every site, there are always people that are pretty good at what they do and people that just pretend so you gotta filter them out.

Thanks - TopTal sounds like a good option.

I am really wanting someone I can collaborate with ongoing, so need a trained person who has a fairly extensive portfolio.

The freelancer sites don't seem to give me what I need so I will definately check out TopTal.

      Thanks for the recommendation.

Interesting - I didn't think about looking on YouTube

How are you marketing yourself? Out of interest.

I will do some searches and have a look around.

Mainly through Youtube with design tutorials. I also create case studies about design projects in blog post format which rank in search, and I also run them as sponsored posts on Facebook targeted to whatever industry the case study was about.

        Good luck finding your designer!

A great place is Deviantart.com. I used to be active on that community and you'll find people fast and based off of your price range. The pricing is usually per project on Deviantart, but the artists there are more than willing to work around the price with you. I got work done there before and liked the entire process.

      Cool - thanks

Any other sites like this you have been active on? I am interested in looking in places that are a little less mainstream.

I found the designers I use by posting on LogoTournament and 99designs. It's nice to get a feel for 10+ designers then work with the ones that match your visions.

It's interesting that most of the top graphic designers in Upwork https://www.upwork.com/hire/graphic-designers/
charge only half the rate your designer does. The top featured designers in Upwork are all from the US.

That is interesting, my one is locally based however if they are in the US that is a little weird.

The rates where I live a close to agency rates and go up year on year, it is a little crazy.

Ideally I would like someone who has time on their hands as I basically need someone about 15 to 20 hours a week, and yet I would prefer to keep it a freelance arrangement as some weeks are quiet and some weeks are nuts.

I will review upwork again, I just didn't see much on there that appealed to me the last time I looked.

Freelancer .com is loaded with talent you are looking for. As a matter of fact the money you are offering is pretty good as well and with this rate you can attract a lot of talented people to bid on your projects. Just interview them thoroughly and sort out how they will be managing your project throughout the duration of the whole project.

Quality deteriorates only when a person is overloaded with projects and has limited amount of time to finish them. I think your employee is in the same situation. If you love her previous work then try working out the schedule together that could work for both of you. Accommodating each other always facilitates better results.

Thanks James. She is great - however the increase in work means she rushes and it doesn't really work well for us or her, as she charges for every update.

I think having two great people would be really good and will allow me to be less demanding. I will have a look on Freelancer and check out if there is anyone suitable, usually I just find people that are fairly mediocre in design and I really need someone quite talented (but not cost the earth) - always the same problem.

Thanks everyone, I have also found a couple of good graphic designer pages on Facebook for really great designers that have been great. I have found that some of the local designers are quoting up to $200 per hour, so I just need to wade through all the options.
