Marketers Are All Talk, No Walk!...(vent!)

I am shocked how few "so-called" marketers really step up to the plate when it comes time to hit a home run. Here's how this started...

I'm hosting a huge marketing competition for affiliates of mine and I noticed two things...

1. Lots of lookers, and little leaders!
2. For what I'm giving away I was expecting way more competition!

To be fair the contest doesn't officially start until the 15th but still! I guess this indicative of people in general, or all marketers in general.

What do you guys think?
Who's had experience launching/ winning an online marketing promotion or marketing contest?
Is anyone else sick of the mediocrity?

Does this have anything to do with your sig file? The page won't load for me...other than that, I would say to you that IM is 'good old boy network' kind of thing when it comes to big promotions. For the most part, it's all about who you know for what you hope to do.

Ken, I actually received your ad through Soloads.com. I guess you took out
      an ad.

This was my impression of the whole thing.

For starters, it appeared to me that your product is some kind of MLM or
network marketing lead generation thing. If not, that was the impression
I got and I'm sure others got the same impression.

Most of us who do what I do, stay away from promoting these things. It's
      that plain and simple.

If you were promoting some kind of home study course where you could
show some real value, then yeah...you'd probably generate some interest.

After I read the whole page, I just closed it up.

      Just being honest.

Actually, it's contests I'm sick of. I don't enter them, and if like some have said, it has the look and feel of an MLM, I wouldn't touch it.

Hard to be interested in it, to be honest.

    Same for me:

    Thought it was MLM

    Link didn't work

Too busy with existing things to be interested and the car being the prize made no difference to me. I like those cars, but since I was already turned off - it became irrelevant.

    Good luck with it though.

Guys just replace contest with www and you'll get the main page. You
won't get the contest page but this will fill you in on what it's about.

      Yeah, it's what I thought...MLM.

You'll find very few marketers who will touch it.

OH snap! wow yeah my link did not work at all in my sig file, i had to change it but typing in with www. will take you to a MLM capture page!

Just to clarify its a lead generation system and yes at first i just used it for people in MLM as most of them are not trained how to market online. But the contest is about who can market a product which happens to be a lead generation system.

I know I can't keep up with all the responses but I'm shocked how many people are offended b/c i've used it to market to people in MLM before.

Anyways the link should work now in my sig file. I'll go read some more and post again

Honestly, the first thing I think of is "if he's giving away a beamer to a winner, he's got to be getting a significant amount in return".

And those smart marketers you've mentioned would rather get their own contests going than work for you, after learning about what your contest is.

Simple as that, in my eyes.

Just for the record I did actually ask questions here to get answers! I've never started a thread here on the forum but i did have questions and they became a thrashing of my sig file! I just migrated hosts and had difficulties.

Anyways now that we're on the apparantly sore subject, why is MLM so offensive?

I think of what I market as a lead generation system but let's say you could only sell it to MLM'ers, if it's profitable its profitable, no?

I guess I'll think twice before I vent again.

    Just a quick point!

It looks like an affiliate link in your sig which is actually against the rules!

    Nice try but no!

As I said earlier it was my intention in posting to get answers to the questions i asked and yes also to vent. I never disable my sig file b/c i didn't think it could be a bad thing.

However if having an affiliate link in you sig file is against the rules, i'm guilty and I had no idea it was. I'll remove it right away. Just out of curiosity why is that against the rules?

We have had "excess attention" from too many programs which encourage their affiliates to come here and post solely for the link exposure. That ends up creating a flood of one-liners and just plain stupid posts. The most recent that was particularly excessive was for Maverick Money Makers.

The only fair way to handle it that's also effective is to require people to link to their own sites if they're promoting affiliate products.

I'm not quite sure I understand your problem.

Are you saying you're tired of marketers who won't do everything they can to market YOUR product for you?
