Default ".me" domains, any good?

Any thoughts on using .me domains, would you think they rank?

Hello,
there is a big movie coming out next year that is using the.me extension.
The trailer is being shown in the movies now.
Despicable Me - Starring Steve Carell - In Theaters July 9, 2010
This may add some attention to the .me extensions.

Something new soon.

Thanks Lou. Some of them probably would work great for name recognition. I am primarily focused on seo/ranking, and see all these juicy not-taken domains with ".me" and thinking to myself, are they any good for seo?

I don't see why not, I know someone who has a blog on a .me domian, he seems to be doing fine with it.

You'd have to make sure you can get whois protection on .me though, that's if it's a concern to you? I wouldn't want my personal details available to all those spammers.

Paul.

Even if they do rank, will people "trust" the domain with the different look.

Because they certainly won't type it in as easily as the .com one.

Reckon "bite" is taken, as in http://bite.me ?

edit: Well, just tested by clicking on the link and it has not been released. LOL

Most of the good .com's are taken by squatters, and are very expensive to get... on most of the keywords I am looking at .org, and even .net are taken, so that leaves me .cc and .me, and maybe .ws.

If you can, get the .com or .net.

If they are not available and many of the "best" are not, then you need to become creative and think of similar names that are not taken.

Using other suffixes, won't kill you however, once you have good content, frequent visitors and some back links.

Remember though to select a domain with one or two relevant keywords in the name. That can help better your rankings with some of the search engines.

Jeff.

JustBite is.

I grabbed justbite.me and privateto.me the day the extension was opened. So far, all I've done with them is put up a cute placeholder page and give a few of my spambusting friends addresses at the first one.

As far as SEO, I can't imagine it would make a big difference. It does have an advantage over .biz and .info in terms of email deliverability, though. Those two have been used more by spammers than any of the other similar extensions, and aren't country codes, so some systems score higher against them when filtering.

LOL Paul,

Don't think I'd have any use for them, but it was too funny for me not to ask.

I'm sorry to disagree, but that is total nonsense.

I just bought a .me domain. BTW, I am seeing them disappearing at a fast clip. So get yours before too late -- godaddy has them for less than $10.

I have no idea if they will be any good, but they seem to be going, from my vantage point.

This forum is amazing. This thread is already indexed in google with multiple replies-- now that is fat - wish my sites were getting this kind of indexing

edit :
somehow [ http://bite "." me ]change its anchor text to ".ME premium domain" by itself.

.me domains are good if you can grab something related to a profession. write like dentist.me, doctor.me, etc. I remember seeing an auction exclusively for .me domains and it went well. If you are looking for personalized name domains, it may be better to register .name domains, like davidwalsh.name, carolbartz.name etc.
