Question from a total newbie

Hi guys and gals

First of all, let me first point out that I'm not involved in internet marketing (yet). Instead, I write articles for an automated article writing site which, fortunately for me, keeps me up to my teeth in work.

Okay, a few months ago I started making an attempt at having my own rewriting site but that never really got off the ground as I simply don't have any marketing experience. As a result, the site was just sitting there, and then a few days ago I discovered that the site I work for has an affiliate program. Of course I went ahead and joined, copied some banners and added them to my site. Yesterday I asked another warrior how I can make my domain redirect and I had an answer in minutes. The question I have now is, should I have the site redirect or not, bearing in mind that I will be submitting articles to EZA in order to try and promote the site I write for.

Sorry if this is long winded, and I appreciate any advice.

PS:- The commission I stand to make is peanuts, but let's just say this is me testing the waters before I try to move on to bigger things.

Part of it is how good of a sales letter the merchant site has put together. If it doesn't really close the deal adequately, that I would certainly feel like I would have to have my own site where I pre-sell them first.

That being said, I think that for long term gain it would be best to direct articles (such as EZA) to your own site, which you control, first. My having your own site (and not just a re-direct), you will be able to (i) collect visitor info for a mailing list (lots and lots of good posts in here on that...the percentage of conversions go up exponentially if you are able to put together an email list), (ii) pre-sell (tailor it to the type of traffic you expect to get based upon your article), and (iii) if the merchant goes under or if you find that an alternative merchant better suits your needs, than you can change things easier (i.e., without messing with your external articles hopefully) so that you can pre-sell this new vendor.

Hope that helps. You found the right forum to get up to speed.

  • I agree completely with thmgoodw. Redirects are good if you're selling an affiliate product with a high commission. Sounds like your site is more of a slow build.

    Isn't this place awesome!
