How do you test idea for a blog?

Hello, Warriors,

Either it's hard to find an answer to or I'm terrible at Google. All I find is 'x Topics for a Blog'. But I already have an idea. In any case, can you help me in finding a way how to test it?

I've looked at keyword planner, Google trends, competitors, it's so confusing.

I've searched 4-5 relevant keywords, there are a couple of competitors, but top results are from Buzzfeed, wide-range sites that happened to be talking about that subject, etc. Does that mean it's an opportunity or that it's so bad, that no one is doing it?

The mentioned competitors, some have courses, or live 1-1 training, some only have ads on their site, a few amazon books, but nothing that would really stand out.

Google trends on two keywords I checked seem to go up and down constantly in a course of 5 years, average being somewhere in the middle. So, I know people are searching for it, topic is evergreen like caskets and how to pay less taxes, but going back to competitors, I'm don't know whether anyone's making money off of it. It's not a topic that people like to share, but rather do the search in private. Btw, for me 1-1 live training is not an option.

So, maybe I'm not searching the right keywords, not finding the right competitors, maybe I just don't know how to properly interpret all the data.

Is there maybe a guide, a step-by-step process explaining how to find the most profitable spots in your niche/topic and evaluating whether that 'most profitable' is good enough?

Can anyone help me with this?

Well, clearly I am asking the wrong question here.
But if I cannot go directly from here to knowing if my blog idea has potential, what's standing in the way?

I'm here -> _____???_______-> Testing the potential blog idea

    Is that a better question?

Forget the blog for now, and research the market. Look for forums, social groups, related questions, topics being discussed, available products, reviews etc. You want to find out if there's a market you can reach and whether people are currently buying what you intend to be offering.

When you know who and where your potential customers are, then you can start planning your blog - including what kind of angle you could use to differentiate yourself in the market.

I really appreciate you taking the time Frank. But that doesn't really answer my question.

That's the problem - I KNOW there is a market - people talk about it, there are forums, etc. I know who my potential customers are. That's all and good.

What I need to find out is whether my potential customers are buying what my competitors are selling. . How do I find that out?

Like I said, my competitors don't seem to be selling much - google ads, a few ebooks, 1v1 training. And I don't know whether it's because no one is buying or I'm not looking at the right competition? I'm a beginner and there's just a lot of confusion around this.

To find that out go into Google/Bing and type in the keywords you're researching and see what ads are being run - if any.

If you type in a keyword and there are a few ads then you know your competitors are selling their products successfully.

If you don't see any ads for a keyword then your competition hasn't figured out how to make that keyword phrase profitable.

That should also help you find more competitors as you do research.

Well unless you can find any existing products, you don't know that there's a market. It's difficult to be precise without knowing your topic, but put yourself in the position of those discussing the subject in the forums you've found. What are they talking about? Do they have problems? Do they consume anything related to their interest? Join in the discussions and put some of these questions to the other members.

If you have blog or blog site. You need to promote it by social media profiles. Rather than SEO.

Thanks, but it's not the point. First, I want to make sure that if I continue, it will be worth it. And I don't know how to do that.

Well, that's one actionable point, I love it. Thanks.

Touche, Frank True, I don't know. Thank you for advice, it's now much clearer for me and I will hit the forums and try asking.
