Promoting a satirical news aggregator?

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. Hope I put this in the right section.

So, I recently took the plunge and decided to start my own website (my name+ co.uk .

I decided to go with something I found fun and settled on a satirical news aggregator.

But now the site is up and running, I realize I have no idea how to promote or drive traffic to it.

I have read many good articles and posts on the subject. But a lot of the advice is not applicable to my niche or the way the site currently works.

The website just pulls in RSS feeds from the top satirical news sites and displays them in loose categories (UK, WORLD and NON-ENGLISH). No pages are created. The feeds link back directly to the original sites.

I am not looking to sell stuff or promo things. Just making a few bucks from ad revenue would be nice.

I did start both a Facebook and Twitter page but found myself in the same position. Its like a catch 22. Use Facebook to drive traffic to your site....but how do you get the FB traffic without buying it?

I am not adverse to paying for promotion but my budget in that regard is limited and why pay of there are viable free options available.

Can anyone recommend good ways for me to get the site out there? Any suggestions appreciated! Many thanks!

    Look if traffic could be driven easily for free then just about everyone in Internet marketing would be successful. TRAFFIC IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY MOST FAIL.

    Theres no mystery to where traffic comes from. Unless you are one of the browser developers (who get traffic when a browser is opened to their home page) then you get it from some other site.

    Searchengine traffic takes time work or pay for it.
    PPC is straight up paying for it.
    Links on other sites for free takes time, contact, something unique and work.

    None of that is "free" in any real sense of the word.

    If anyone here could just tell you a free secret then everyone would be successful. You will get suggestions of course but almost all of them will give you no real good traffic.

    Now if you do some of your own satirical news and share it and it goes viral then social can work quite well.

    Go where the traffic is. Find a FB site which has already thousands of users and is similar to your niche and go and befriend people there. Interact, share their comments and posts etc. Then in time people will start to follow you and have a look at your website and what you have to offer.

    I have seen a ton of shares on my own personal Facebook account of this nature. And funny as it sounds, some believe the stories.

    You then see someone 'gently' telling them...it's fake!

    So yeah. Social media would be your best bet. Especially for topics that are trending... Donald Trump etc.

    There are services like Cashblurbs.com (not an affiliate link) where your link and short message will be tweeted and shared on FB by other members before they can share their own.

    This could create a viral effect after awhile. Good luck.
