Who does Content Marketing work: Copywriter or Content Writer?

I have found more than one thread discussing the differences between a copywriter and a content writer. So, there's no point nor need discussing it again.

So, who do you call to do your content marketing job? I would say a content writer, but then, you need to ensure some conversion. Right? But, would a copywriter be interested in content marketing? Or, can content marketing have different components both copywriters and content writers might be interested about?

I know it's not a life-saving question, but it's a good thing to know and understand.

Thx in advance.

Probably neither. Writing and marketing are two different skill sets.

They are not mutually exclusive. In fact, many a marketer became successful once they mastered their copy WRITING. I think we'd find a lot of cross over and I'm going to say they are NOT (necessarily) different skill sets. However, if you have a clear line of demarcation, I'll give it consideration.

For the most part, I would say freelancers that create content do not market that content. At least none that I know.

Content marketing is all about getting your content in front of the eyes of your target market which is skewed much more to a marketing skill set than a writers skill set.

However, site owners who create their own content or larger companies, I could see having a lot of overlap between content creation and marketing their content. But, I don't see that as the case for the OP.

    Ready?

Go to Google. Type in "advertorials"
    Click more
    Than click books
    click tools
    then any document
    then magazines
    then images

What you will find are scores of "Articles (content)" written with the purpose of selling a product (Copywriting)

Spend an hour reading as many of these as you can, it may help.

PS Or it may not help.
