Has anyone here ever found a mentor? If so, how did you meet him/her and what did you say to convince them to train you?

How did the experience impact you going forward?

I've been wanting to be an entrepreneur for some time. Reading plenty of books and started an online marketing business.
What I needed was some guidance, to start acting like a real entrepreneur I wanted to hang out with some. So I looked for some start-up businesses in central London, called them up and said:

"hey, my name's.. I'm interested in entrepreneuralism, my skills involve... if you're a start-up company i'd love to come work with you guys as an intern, no pay. Just want to brush shoulders with like-minded people in a dynamic team".

Make sure it's a new start-up though, you want to be able to bounce ideas with the CEO.
If it's fascinating and what you want, then stay. If not, move on.

Then once you're acquainted, see if he'll mentor you.

I hope this helps, it worked for me.

I found my mentor in a life seminar few years ago. Though before I met him in person I had a few chat with him on facebook so much appreciation to facebook.

Now before he decided to be my mentor I had to prove to him that I'm serious, focus and determined to make it work for me with his guidance which I did and he was very impressed.

So if you can prove that you are ready to give it the world and stand by it no matter what then I'm sure you'll find a mentor that would be willing to commit to you if you possess all those qualities.

Apart from that make sure you're ready to invest in your online education cause this is one of the prove that you're serious.

    All the best people...

Great question. Finding a mentor is bar none, one of the smartest and most important things you can do if you are looking for great success with your business.

For me. This journey was not easy. Like most newbies and fresh marketers, the belief was that "I GOT THIS, I DON'T NEED HELP!" My ego kicked in and I believed at that time, that I was a pretty smart guy and if people were making a lot of money online, I would figure it out by my self and do it. After all. How hard can this be right?

Big mistake. I had so many failures and struggles that could have been avoided, had I found a mentor to begin with. So my advice to you is, find out what it is you want to achieve in your business and what kind of lifestyle you truly want to have. Once you are crystal clear about this, do your research and find someone in your specific field of interest that has achieved that which you desire and do not be scared or intimidated to reach out to them. Chances are you will be suprised how willing most successful poeple want to share their story and help the willing student. Good luck to you.

I had a very similar experience, and as you say, wasted so much time because I also assumed too much. Focus is very important, and finding a mentor that suites your needs, but also fits well in terms of personality. Having a mentor literally changed everything for me.

One moment in my life lead to millions of dollars in sales over my career...

That moment was meeting my mentor.

I found my mentor over 7 years ago... 2 years into my struggle to make money online.

I was failing at internet marketing and I tried everything I could think of...

    I tried blogging
    I tried writing articles
    I tried creating niche websites
    I even tried flipping websites.

I never made more than 10$ a day.

Then I met my mentor by reaching out to him one day after hearing about a recent success he had. Let me just say... I'm not the kind of guy that reaches out to people and asks for help. I'm too stubborn to do that...

But for whatever reason, that day I decided to message him and ask him if he could mentor me...

"The guy was making over $15,000 a month why would he want to waste his time with me?" I thought after messaging him.

I felt weak for even asking, but to my surprise... he said he would help me after hearing about my background. I guess he had a similar upbringing and we connected...

He sat down with me for 1 hour a day after that and taught me everything he knew on affiliate marketing...

I struggled at first, but my first year as an affiliate marketer under my new mentor was a profitable one. I did a little over $40,000 in sales, about $23,000 in profit.

I thought I had made it! I was in high school and I thought I was set for life if I could make that much money every year! (It's funny how far money goes when you're in high school living with your parents who pay all the bills)...

I was starting to get content with where I was, but my mentor pushed me to keep going. He said if I stopped now, I would fall back into old habits and eventually stop growing.

So I kept pushing forward. The next year was even better than my first. Over $120,000 gross. $73,000 net profit.

Unreal kind of money for a kid like me. I didn't even know what to do. I paid off a second mortgage my parents had on their house and put the rest of the money away. But it got even better the next year...

I hit my stride and in my third year of affiliate marketing I made $638,000+... At 19!

I still can't believe how much money was going in and out of my bank account at such a young age. I even had the bank manager call my parents up asking what was going on. And after explaining what I was doing, he wanted me to teach him, lol...

Now this story isn't to brag about my accomplishments. The point I want to make here is...

All of this happened because I reached out to some guy on the internet and asked for help. I stopped being a lone wolf and stubborn... And for one moment in my life, I let go of all my assumptions and pride and reached out to someone looking for their help. And that single decision changed my life for the better...

Working with someone to improve yourself can be the best decision you ever make. But only do it if you are serious about wanting help...

Don't go looking for a mentor thinking you can sit back and this person is going to change your life for you... You have to WANT to change.

People WANT to be successful and have lots of money... but very few people are WILLING to change their life to accomplish those goals. If you aren't willing to work your butt off to get to where you want to be... Then don't bother with a mentor. Go work on your mind set...

I'll end my little spiel with one of my favorite quotes...

"To be successful, you must be willing to do the things today others won't do in order to have the things tomorrow others won't have."

Money talks. If you want a mentor to spend time on you, you better be able and willing to either pay him/her or help his/her business make money by working for free or cheap.

I don't have a "mentor" and personally, I think it's overrated by how much it's talked about on this forum. But, I have worked for and managed two small businesses for a few years each and I believe I learned more in those few years than any mentor could ever teach me.

Do you think your age makes a difference if you are seeking a mentor? I'm currently 28 and work a full-time job (40-48 hours a week).

I'd be happy to find a mentor and assist them for free...it would likely have to be on weekends.

    Finding a Mentor Good Question!

The only thing I can tell you is from my own life experience is you do want to seek out a mentor in whatever niche you want to be in. You can learn from many of them but you really want to focus your attention to 1 good mentor that can cut years off your learning curve. With a proven record of course.

You will have to invest your hard earn money but in return if you put the work into it like you should then you can succeed online. Personal I've learn from many of them but I really got lucky with my present one I met him through Michael Cheney. I've invested a good amount you might say into Michael I've been following him since he started online.

Through my mentor Ive learned to be good at one or two things online and focus all your attention to your marketing plan in your niche.

Ive also learn from my mentor to have The Perfect Path To Success
You will need these actions to do as much as possible.

They are: Educate Yourself Create Your Strategy Take Consistent Action Review and Optimize Scale

I have been doing it for a while now and its nice to see your PayPal and Clickbank checks grow.

But like one other warrior said and T Totally agree and that is, you got to be an action taker and want like breath itself I once heard. It takes time, dedication, no procrastinating and money to get good at this game.

But when you partner with someone that is already doing it and wants to help train you and give you some much back with integrity and a proven system its hard to fail. (You only fail if you dont take action)

Ive learn it takes a lot to get it all in place, but you have to market like a little traffic monster I like to call it.
Also please dont forget to build your almighty list; I did not do this for a few years, stupid leaving money on table.

If you have not heard the money is in the list, its true. But you have to treat your list like gold and it will turn into gold.
I am seeing way too many big shots/gurus overloading on email pitches all the damn time. I understand they have to make money will all do but be careful there Ive lost many subs because of this.

Every 4 days hit them up with a promo, all the rest is helping them! With the very best you can offer at all times!
Well anyway rambling onIf youre interested I can steer you to my mentor.

    But are ready for it?

    Until then stay strong,

What it all comes down to is helping the rest takes care of itself

I think that each of us, at one point in our lives, had a mentor.

This is someone we look up to, someone who takes care of us and looks after our careers.

If you want to find someone in a certain niche, don't be afraid to reach out. You want to find a mentor who is willing to be involved in your career.

There are a lot of coaches out there you can pay to mentor you about a specific niche or topic, but I think that finding someone who is willing to teach you more than what his or her course covers, is the perfect mentor.

You may be surprised at the support and guidance you can find from active groups and communities you can find online (such as facebook groups).

"hey, my name's.. I'm interested in entrepreneuralism, my skills involve... if you're a start-up company i'd love to come work with you guys as an intern, no pay. Just want to brush shoulders with like-minded people in a dynamic team".
You can also do what gwilfo1988 suggested. find a person or organization you admire, and reach out to them.

HOW TO GET A MENTOR FOR FREE
Getting a mentor is easy, you know who the top guys are in your industry, pay them in return for mentorship/coaching/consulting...
    But getting a free mentor?
    That's Much Harder.
So how do you do it? Or how did I do it?
Back when I first transferred from content writing to sales copy, I got a couple of mentors very quickly.
I never would have called them my mentors, they never would have called themselves "coaches" or anything formal/fluffy/ like that.
Usually, my mentors came in the form of unofficial partnerships, and from my clients. I actually asked my clients (who were copywriters/agencies outsourcing to me) to teach me sales copy.
What happened turned out to be much much better, I became friends with these people. I became friends with my clients, or with people that I met networking.
Once you've done this, you get to a point where you get access to their knowledge, they want to help you win.
What I noticed is there are a couple of things that means people will "mentor" you (i.e give you free advice and help you out when you REALLY need it)
    1) Be humble - I took this too far in the early days, I could literally get told "You're not good enough" and I'd say "Okay I'll look into that" (about stuff that I was definitely good enough to do!).
Yes, that was a little too far, but it's that kind of willingness to listen to any feedback, even just to go "no you're talking shit".
The fact I actually listened to peoples' advice was why I got a lot of help in the early days
    2) Help Them Out - When you want someone to help you for no money, you want to be helping them out, I did this by referring them leads. You could do it by working for them for free (they better be running a 7 figure business if you're going to work for a mentor for free, ideally running an 8/9 figure business).
    3) Trade Ideas - Once you learn one really clever skill or technique. You have the ability to "trade up" your ideas. This means you can share your knowledge with someone much smarter than you and learn from them in return. For me, this skill was cold email, nobody else I met knew how to write cold email copy and send cold emails in the way that I did. I can speak to anyone and teach them at least one thing they didn't already know.
    4) Work Hard - If you're seen to implement what you get taught, people will be much happier to help you out...
