Hi,

I have been a silent surfer of this forum for quite sometime. All this time, I have surfed through tons of offers etc. I think now is the time that I also want to become an affiliate marketer. I just want to know where to start? how much budget should I have? and most importantly, what exactly to avoid. I hope to see some great advice by awesome mentors at WF.

Thanks

Good choice. Affiliate marketing is a great place to start.

No need to worry about customer service, product fulfillment etc.

If you really want to, you can develop your own products in the background while starting as an affiliate.

A great resource to start with is Affilorama. It is a complete training site geared to affiliate marketers and you can start with a free membership.

It covers everything step by step from market research to outsourcing. I find the videos helpful and overall it is hype free. You can upgrade to their premium membership but that is optional.

Once you decide on a niche you need to decide on what business model best suits you to promote it.

For example, I like list building but blogging might appeal more to you.

Once you decide on something, take action and stick with it.

Only study what you need to complete your next task.

    Good luck

Great decision. Have you taken any offers? or just looked at them? I think it's a great start to buy a program/offer that resonates with you the most.

As for costs, you need a few tools and then you may want to spend money on traffic.

For tools you need an autoresponder first of all, and a landing page creator like Leadpages or Clickfunnels.

If I were you, i'd keep it as simple as possible, and make a conscious decision on what you want to promote, and what kind of traffic source you want to learn and get great at.

It's better to master 1 traffic source than it is to be average at 10 different things.

It's always a good idea to get a course for whatever you are looking to achieve. Don't be afraid to spend money and take action. - If you make any mistakes, (and you will) it'll just be feedback for you to use moving forward. Don't be afraid of failure, they are often blessings in disguise.

  • I would say start from clickbank select a product/niche that interest you a lot as this will make your task easier .

As far as budget is concerned there is no quote and quote answer for this .

If you are into paid advertising start small and see where this takes you .

Make sure to check what your competitors are doing and check how you can do it better .

I know saying all these looks a bit overwhelming but can be achieved with patience and hard work.

I wish you success in your affiliate marketing journey

The first step mainly deals with competitor analytics and ideal customer profile development.

Start with finding a set of significant traffic sources.
    ...
Those are online places where a good number of buyers with common interests go to learn new stuff, share interesting news and advice, participate in discussions, engage with relevant content and buy products.
    ...
Those should also be online places where you can participate in discussions, engage in meaningful conversations with other viewers, place your content to build your reputation as a friendly expert resource of beneficial news and advice, and cost-effectively advertise your offers and affiliate products

From those online places, you'll learn what those buyers are exactly looking for, how they talk to each other, what they expect to hear from experts in relevant fields, how they react to which type of content and ads, what products would they be willing to buy and recommend to their peers, etc.
    ...
You can also find out where those buyers have been to before they ended up at those online places.
    ...
That'll give you better insights on your ideal customers and the other traffic sources of your competitors.

Once you have some traffic sources and know those things about their viewers, referring sites and advertising platforms -- You'd be able to choose which affiliate products are best to offer those buyers.
    ...
You'd also be able to devise potentially effective marketing campaigns and promotional materials, especially if you also study what the top players in your chosen iche are doing.

That mainly depends on the things you'll learn about the traffic sources that you found, your ideal customers, your competitors, their traffic sources and what you can earn from your affiliate products.

Avoid niches with significant traffic sources where there are no possible content placement, advertising and partnership opportunities for you as an affiliate marketer with your specific set of skills, experience, knowledge, fiscal and non-fiscal resources, professional and personal networks.

Here's my suggestion to all the newbies who are just getting started with affiliate marketing.

Don't do traditional desktop affiliate marketing.

    Get into mobile right now!

Don't get me wrong. Traditional affiliate marketing is still going strong, but you have a large amount of competition and you are going up against people who have been in this industry for years with deeper pockets.

Don't fight for table scraps among the big dogs.

Get into a market the big dogs haven't quite nailed down yet... That's mobile.

You are already at a huge disadvantage going into affiliate marketing alone. The best thing you can do is make it as easy as possible to ensure your success. And affiliate marketing through mobile isn't quite as new as it once was, but you have a better shot at making money doing that, then you will doing traditional desktop offers.

Go mobile and get in it now!

The SAME SYSTEM you have encountered many times in this forum and around the web.

1 Choose a niche (see if there are competitors, if not skip it, see if there are audience and offers)

2 Build an Email List around this niche (of course give something valuable in exchange for the mail, build an opt in page)

3 Nurture your Leads with good content and market offers you rely on and tested them before.

The same system, old fashioned way, declined in many ways, but the only one which lasts on long term
    AND build an ASSET.

the important thing is TRAFFIC: the source of your List Building. Try and master it.

Is it possible or equally profitable to become an affiliate marketer even if I live outside the U.S. (I live in the Philippines)?

Just wondering the different disadvantages I would have over affiliate marketers in the U.S. Maybe in terms of SEO, social media, etc.

I had a blog before and I tried to target people in the U.S. but I found that my Facebook page attracted a local audience which then made my visitors mostly local.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10935394].message }}
  • The forum is a great way to start on your journey in affiliate marketing. You should take notes as you read the threads.

You may also search for related blogs and sites that offer free information or course in affiliate marketing (Affilorama offers free lessons, btw ). You may also try Udemy.

On what to avoid, I think what you need to remember is to never give up. You will definitely encounter a lot of challenges along the way. In fact, you may encounter more mistakes. But all these experiences are learnings for you. Take everything to your advantage.

    Good luck!

I think affiliate marketing is the way to go.

As an affiliate marketer, your biggest asset is finding places to advertise that WORK for you and then using them over and over and over again to make money each time.

Your biggest challenge is to find what works and what doesn't.

Once you master that, you can promote anything and still profit from your efforts.

Programs come and go but when you know where to market that produces results for you, you are going to succeed LONG TERM.

The first thing you should do is

    1. Decide on the niche you want to go into, one that you thing will be profitable for you. There are quite a few niches that you can profit from.

    2. Create a marketing funnel that you can siphon traffic to. You know like squeeze page, redirects etc as this will enable you start building your list (VERY CRUCIAL)

    3. Test different traffic sources with your marketing funnel to determined which converts best for you

    4. Scale things up.

    Hope that helps..

Keep in mind that there is a big world outside of promoting IM / MMO offers. Which so may here focus on and how to make sales.

I have been promoting PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers for over 16 years.

The key reason is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher than offers that require a sale to be made.

Some of the verticals that I have done extremely well are: insurance, education, mortgage, credit, debt, loans, assistance, homeowner offers, etc...

They are huge markets that have mass appeal, so the potential to produce high volume exists and they are fairly easy to cross promote.

It's all about the path of least resistance to generating conversions / $$$. As it is just simply easier to get someone to fill out a short form, than take out their credit card and make a purchase.

    Something to think about.

The health and wealth niches are always good choices, along with things like acne.

I totally agree with Randy McLean if you really want to get an education in affiliate marketing affilorama is the place to check out.

Other than that, I would pick a niche you know something about--don't worry if it is not one of the niches above.

Set up a wordpress blog, tie it in with facebook, twitter, and the various other social sites and blog good content on a regular basis.

Include in this content links back to your affiliate product--and you could also put a banner up as well.

Also, check the vendor's affiliate page and see what tools he is giving you.

Check to see if he gives you sample article or blog posts and keywords that you can target.

One last word, if you set up a blog, don't fall into the trap of posting content just to post, always give your readers something of value--posting junk will just turn them off and this is the last thing you want.

Most of the warriors already cover the choose the niches. So, I would like to suggest your squeeze page creation. An eyes catchy page is essential to collect leads. You may try instalbuilder 2.0, clickfunnel or WP builder. You headline must create more curiosity to make people optin. Try to make your form right on the page, do not do in at the bottom, cause people lazy to scroll down. Graphic may choose a simple and clean one to avoid messy look.

Next, a tracker tool to determine the traffic and do some A/B test. This will tell you which squeeze page do the best. Then, setup up your autoresponder using either Aweber or Get Response.

This is pretty much the basic follow. But, the challenge is the traffic. There are free and paid traffic in the internet marketing. It now depends on what niche you are in and pick the right source of traffic. So, what you should avoid is....'Shining object syndrome'. Keep doing the right thing and fine tune your funnel until you get the result.
