Wedding Videography Website: Direct to Vimeo V.S. YouTube?

Hi there.

I am about to launch a unique style of wedding videography which I think has a chance to go viral both for its unconventional style and the fact I've already filmed some internationally famous subjects.

In terms of my website, to look more professional my instinct is to host my videos on Vimeo.

BUT, if I were to climb search rankings on YouTube, this could potentially provide long-term traffic and revenue through bookings. Website hits could all help promote the YouTube channel simultaneously.

But hosting via YouTube on my website I think would look less classy and pro....

Any ideas about how I should approach this?
---e.g. spread a press release with the website and youtube channel links, perhaps include a subscribe on youtube button on the website..

Any thoughts / advice appreciated. I'm an amateur with online marketing....

I personally would go with YouTube videos. It is as professional looking as any other website that allows you to upload videos.

For website design/portfolio purposes I would use Vimeo but whats stopping you from uploading to them both?

  • Pete,

I took note of some keywords from what you said.
    ...
These are viral, pro and classy, long term traffic and revenue through bookings, and website hits to promote Youtube channel ...

Viral = For your video content to go viral, I think it's probably more straightforward to do that in Youtube (than in your new site and in Vimeo) ...

    - BUT -

Focusing on that depends if the type of viral traffic you'd get from Youtube would most likely consist of your ideal customers and prospects for your business ...

I mean, if your target audience hangs out more in let's say Facebook (and if they're also expected to react in ways beneficial to you when they see your content there), then:

    >> It could possibly be best for you to focus on going viral in that social platform?

Pro & Classy = Again, I think it's all about your ideal audience.
    ...
If they'd most likely react in ways beneficial for you when they see pro and classy packaging for the same content, then I'd say go for Vimeo when it comes to your onsite video content!

Long Term Traffic & Revenues Through Bookings = If your ideal customers and prospects mostly hang out in Youtube, then you could probably get this when you publish your videos in Youtube.

    - BUT -

If your target audience is found elsewhere, then I think you could still publish your video content in Youtube, though focus more on what can actually give you long term targeted traffic and revenue from bookings ...

Website Hits to Promote Youtube Channel = I have the same argument here, mostly ...

    >> Anyway, though 3 years old, perhaps there's some value for you in these discussions: https://moz.com/community/q/posting-...eo-and-youtube

How do you expect to climb search rankings rapidly? If I were searching for a wedding videographer, I doubt YouTube would be my first port of call.

I would upload the videos on both channels. I would use youtube for marketing as you can rank very well with your keywords using youtube. So I would put links in the youtube description to your website. And I would use vimeo for the links from your website, so any visitor to your website will go to vimeo for watching your videos.
