You have to *BUILD* a mailing list. Put up a subscription form on your site and offer an ecourse or a freebie and let your visitors subscribe. That is how you get a mail list. ![]() . |

But to build a list you need of course an autoresponder like Aweber. I would really recommend Aweber, great interface and easy usage. The first Month is even just $1! Good luck |

you need to BUILD a list and it takes time you need to have somthing that you can give away free in return for someone to opt into your list the same thing everyone will tel you so set up a page just to give away somthing free and capture leads drive traffic to that page then add follow up messages which will build a relationship with the list and then you can make money from that list overtime on the back end Jani G |

you have to build it the slow way.....OR NOT. You can just by a few solo ads and get to 5K in about 1 month if you have the budget and then adswap the daylights out of it. Getting solo ads are the fastest way to build a list. Offer something free and only ask for the email. Once you get the email hit them with follow ups until they buy or die. I don't care which one happens first. Talk soon, Kenny Kencaid |

| You're better off building your own list where the opt-ins have willingly signed up to get your freebie and hear more from you. You could purchase a list but (IMO) you'd probably get more spam complaints than sales |

| I totally agree! List building can be fast, but buying a list, you probably will not make it profitable, unless somehow you can buy a targeted e-mail list. But to be honest, if anyone was to sell their 10K list, I don't think they would sell for less than $10K adn some might even ask $40K, that is of course if you are buying targeted leads. You see, it is not about any list, it is more about building a relationship with your list, helping them, and you can later on expect $$$ results. Getting set up with an autoresponder is just the beginning. You need to focus very carefully on the content in your autoresponder emails. This is one thing that many people don't give much attention to. Take a notice on the emails you get from other marketers and start a "swipe" file collection of how they title the emails and what they say inside each email. You need to sprinkle quality educational content along with some links to affiliate products or your own product URL page. Strike up a "conversation" with your list. This is where you make lots of money from, if done right. Hope that helps, Bruce |

Dreams Box, To get started with a mailing list, you'll want to sign up for a service like aWeber.com and follow the steps they guide you through to set up your first mailing list. Once you get your opt in form, place the code on your website. You're half-way done... Then you'll need a very compelling or persuasive offer to get people to sign up. For example, on my page where I sell my book through Amazon, I give people the first two chapters for free (see www.getnichequick as an example) - you could give people a free report for signing up or something like that. Whatever you do, though, don't buy a list. Not only is it against the terms of service of the auto responder sites, but it won't do you a bit of good. No one in their right mind would sign up with their email address just to get a bunch of ads -- would you? Offer something of value that people are interested in, and you'll be able to build a very good mailing list full of life long customers. Hope this helps! |

| You can in theory, and there are always people willing to sell them (and usually they've been sold many times before) ... But in practice, it doesn't work well, because:- 1. Those people are fed up with receiving spam 2. It wasn't your list that they opted in to, and they can report you for spamming (so if you use your own IP/ISP to send out email, you can lose your connection for it, and if you use an autoresponder you can lose your account there) 3. There's no reason to imagine they'll be responsive or worth having (and many reasons to assume the opposite) 4. Even if you manage to find an autoresponder service that will let you "import" the list, they'll still probably have to "opt in" again before you can send them anything other than an opt-in request and you'd lose most of them in the process 5. Often they won't be people's "real"/"main" email addresses and the opening/reading rate will be terribly low anyway 6. The email address from which you send stuff out won't be recognised by the recipients and a lot will be filtered out automatically as spam/junk-email anyway |

I know that offering something for free is a great way to build a list, but I'm curious as to why a lot of IMers recommend giving away this info as one report. If your free offer is a single report, won't a lot of ppl sign-up, download the report, and then unsubscribe? It seems to me that offering the free info in a series of emails or a series of reports would be a much better way of retaining email addresses. Are there advantages to offering free material as a single report or email? |

Building a quality mailing list is an art form. Don't ever be fooled into buying one, either. It will never be as effective as a list you built yourself.

"buying a list of subscribers and mailing them". But that's not what the quote says above: He didn't mean "buy" an actual list, but you can "buy the rights" to mail to a list of people looking for information on what you have to offer in your niche. That's what ezines do, and yes, when targeted work insanely... insanely well. If you take the time to write a convincing promo, story form is my favorite, you can pull in hundreds in one week from a single mailing easily. But it does take money. And it's money very well spent since you'll get every cent you spent on the mailing and then some if you build that relationship with your list. | |

A "squeeze page" that offers a free giveaway, in exchange for their email address, is the method that has worked best for me. Adding a video -- which helps to bribe them to proceed to the next page -- works even better. Check out my signature box, the bottom link for Mack Tactics will show you what I mean. If you're not offering a serious "bribe" that people have a hard time turning away from, you won't have much luck building a list. People nowadays are guarded about giving up their email. You've got to really convince them to give it up...and then have an AR sequence that coaxes them to BUY! |

Listen, your best bet is to lean as much about you first then set up a squeeze page and drive traffic to it. If I can borrow a quote from my friend Kevin Riley. “Having a website without steady traffic is like opening up a lemonade stand in a ghost town”. Take a traffic course. The list is the easy part. Making sales is the hard part. ![]() Jimmy. |
