Why are ebooks so popular?

Is a subjective perception but it seems to me that e-books are experiencing a growing popularity among English-speaking bloggers.

Why are they so convenient?
For those who have just started in this world of blogs and online business just have to take a step back. There are many reasons that explain why Ebooks are so popular these days, and this are some of this reasons:

Digital format: one of the popular formats is PDF. As the name says the book is not available in physical version but in digital with the possibility of viewing it through different devices (iPad, Kindle, laptop, PC, etc.). An electronic book also allows an easy diffusion that being of payment can be a great disadvantage for the author.
Low cost of acquisition: since there is no cost of printing none the production of a new e-book does not consume any type of resources. Consequently the selling price may be much lower leaving still an attractive profit margin.
Total independence of the author: even if this is changing to take out a book you typically need an editorial. An e-book allows anyone to become an author without having to invest many resources other than own time.

Reasons for the user to purchase an e-book
Lower cost is not the only reason to buy an e-book. It is probably one of the least relevant of the ones exposed here.

1. Trust in the author: When someone buys an e-book, there is usually some confidence in the author. Many bloggers use the link already created with readers to develop offers that 100% with the needs of their audience. Trust is the basis of business and for anyone who wants to create a community around their blog.

2. Tutorial content: The vast majority of e-books meet one or more viral content requirements. A high percentage of eBooks are manuals or tutorials. It is suitable for a beginner target audience looking for information that provides a solution to a problem step by step. Between 80-90% of the visitors of your blog are newbies within the theme that you bring.

3. Offline use: even if it does not look like the always on status (still) does not exist. There are always moments of disconnection desired or involuntary. The e-book provides the ability to consume online content offline. Many authors already take into account the different formats that have different devices and platforms offering great flexibility for the consumer.

4. Saving time: an e-book fulfills an important task. A user does not buy it just because it costs him less than a book or can read it on his iPad. Sometimes it's even the identical content that already exists in blogs. The big difference is that an e-book does the work of structuring, adding and summarizing the content, starting with the simplest ending with the most complex.

You would not be the first to fail in the attempt to sell e-books online. Although you always see and read some success stories are often the exception. Given the reasons why a user is willing to pay for content on the internet (99.9% is free) you increase your chances of success.

What are your buying motives and tips for selling e-books online?

I agree, and this is why I published over 300 ebooks on kindle...

This is a little business that I have: I pay people to write these ebooks for me, then I market them on Amazon kindle.

Damn son, 300 books? I only have 3 but hopefully alot more soon.

I do like e-books because alot of what I have to offer is information and experience as opposed to an actual product. At least for now. Selling e-books on and off kindle is a way to monetize that knowledge, and it is nice to be selling your own thing even if it is a book.

Also kindle now has a very easy paperback option they are rolling out, so it may be even easier that way too.

I also like the fact that you can get your message out there without any filters.

Before the internet, if your way of thinking was a little different than the norm you would have a very hard time getting your message out there.

Take the 4-Hour Workweek. It was rejected by 25 publishers before finally being accepted the 26th time.

And now this info is considered essential reading for entrepreneurs of all kinds.

An ebook will let you bypass this frustration.

You can also include live affiliate links in ebooks which gives you the potential to earn even more money.

Some say that this medium is slowly dying in favor of other mediums like video but to me they seem to be selling well.

People also say that SEO is dead, solo ads are dead etc.

    I call B.S. on that.

Ebooks are not popular. It is the information they contain that is popular. If you go back to a time before the internet you will find people marketing and buying info products.

Hi: Your article provides very good reasoning for ebooks. Thanks.
My buying motives are to get content that is digital, immediately accessible, and doesn't take up space on my book shelf.

You may already know this but putting your books on several platforms will grow your exposure and sales. Amazon is the biggest dog on the block, but other platforms (Kobo, IBooks, Barnes & Nobles) offer expansion opportunities.

    Good luck,

Top selling ebooks are purchased because they offer both a desired outcome (to be more attractive, happier, more popular, rid of an illness or health challenge, have more money and/or control over one's life, etc...) and the perception is that a) That blogger, personality or company can provide them with a more current, faster or more proven way of getting there. As an ebook, they can get instant gratification around a deeply held desire to have, be, do or become something they want very badly in life. In a sense, top selling non-fiction ebooks are "Hope For Fulfilling A Deeply Held Desire In A Package"

Too many ebook authors miss this and instead look at their ebooks as simply information or a chance to give people what the author views is needed instead of tapping into the desire and hopes of their market.

From a bloggers perspective, they typically want both the revenue and branding that a digital product brings them over their blog...at least that's what the bloggers who we have worked with are after.

I love ebooks because they are available for immediate download. The nearest bookstore is 45 minutes away (though I still visit often) and amazon takes a day or two for delivery. Sometimes I need research material right NOW and can't find what I want in free online sources.

For me ebooks are great because you can pay for it and download it in seconds anytime of the day or night.

However, with that said, I still like a good old school book or magazine

When a customer buys my product, I can send them a FREE e-book and each copy costs me less than one penny. Color images in paperback books are expensive. Also, you must pay postage and delivery takes many days instead of one sec.

I suppose the question (for certain eBooks) would be:

"Why is valuable, how-to content (that helps people reach their goals/results) so popular?" Many people forget what they're selling.

Thanks for sharing your valuable Idea. Yes, I think the Ebook is so popular for many reason. Such as

    1. Place: it is possible to read the book from anywhere of the word.
    2. Time: It can be read at any time, there is no time problem.
    3. Availability: it can be found from anywhere of the world by easy mouse click.
    4. Cost: It is really cheap than a real book, because real book need to print & Paper expense.
    Thanks for sharing.

Good point/advice Robert. I think it was W. Clement Stone that offered an ebook for (something like) 15 pages for $995 which he all sold. Why? Because, like you said, people were purchasing something that it worth more than the ink and paper.

Ebooks are really good but what I really like are audio books.

Whenever I am driving, I turn them on and get educated while on the road. It really can't get easier than that.

I love Audible.com just because of this.

Iam still saying video has taken over. Anymore I gravitate to buying Video Products with a optional PDF instead of just straight PDF !!

And I am willing to pay more for video course

Digital or not, people pay for value. For instance, if they can purchase a 7-book PDF book that cures their "acne" then it's a great transition (for something like $19) because it solves their problem.
