Advice needed for particular effect in videos

Hi all,

I'm sure you've seen videos on YouTube where, after a few seconds, an animated text box displaying the host's name (and perhaps a logo) will slide in. After a couple of seconds, it will slide back out.

It'd be a nice touch for some of the videos my partner is doing, and I was wondering how you'd go about achieving such an effect? I understand that things may change depending on video editors, but any pointers would be welcome.

You want to look at "titling" in your video software. Most basic video creation tools have some kind of titling available. If you want a "big gun" post-production tool that can do all kinds of fancy titling and a ton of other things, take a look at Adobe AfterEffects.

If you're creating movies as PowerPoint (Keynote, OpenOffice Impress, etc.) presentations and recording them with Camtasia or a similar tool, you can create the effect directly on the presentation slides where you want it. Create the element (words, logo, etc.) and have PowerPoint animate it onto the slide. It's a bit tedious to do this multiple times, though. That's why most people do it in post-production, rather than pre-production.

It is what they call a lower two thirds and most video editors will do them even camtasia !
I would look around on the web you may pick up some freebie to practice on

Once you get that right look up Videohive by Envarto you find some very cool things there and if you like video making you will be a kid in a lolly shop

Really helpful, guys. I've been experimenting with 'lower two thirds' templates today and we already have one up on our main sales video. Thanks both!

Quick extra tip - If you're on a Mac, iMovie does what you're asking for pretty easily... what you can do is slide a jpg or other type of image in and out (so for a word, obviously, you'd use a 'picture' of the word).
