I definitely want to become A successful affiliate marketer but I feel that I dont really have any direction. Everything you read online is different and I really do not know what works. I know how to put up A standard web site but I am having trouble with keyword research and selecting products. I really do not know how to determine if A keyword has too much competition based on the # of searches it gets and the amount of web sites using that keyword.

Everyone wants to sell me something and I now actually own both mass article control and magic article rewriter/submitter that I thought would help me a lot with article marketing. But it really does not make any difference if I do not pick the right keywords/products. I would just like to have A plan in place where I know what I need to do and that if I put the work in I will have success. Right now I feel I am just taking A shot in the dark with everything and I am sort of gun shy about selecting keywords looking at the competition that is out there. I am just worried I will not be able to get any traffic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You For Your Time
Erik

    Hi Eric,

A plan is always the first step.

Disclaimer: I am not a high end affiliate marketer, this is just my 2 cents. Thanks I dont like giving advice on stuff I have not had personal success or know.

Step 1 - Goto Google Trends and Amazon to find whats hot sellers.
Step 2 - Goto Clickbank or similar and find products you can sell
Step 3 - Use Google Keyword Tool (Free) or Wordtracker (I use Micro Niche Finder (paid)) to find your keywords
Step 4 - Market Market Market
Step 5 - Track and market what works
Step 6 - Did I mention marketing. Market, market, market

Also ALWAYS add value to people in whatever you do.

I am a newbie as well, and the advice I want to share with you is to try not to learn everything at once. If you want to start something just to make some money and get your feet wet. I suggest you throw up a page of something you know about (can help you if you want. It can be anything, don't worry about seo or keywordsat the minute. Yes SEO is very powerful and can earn you lots of money, but it isn't really necessary to start making money. Article marketing is very powerful as well as things like yahoo answers and blog commenting can help generate targeted traffic to your site. This is just something you can do now right now, while you are learning about how the search engines work, study these forums like a bible and ask questions if you get stuck. You don't have to buy anything to help you right now. There is enough free knowledge on here to last you a good while.

Make a list of things you might want to throw a page up on. It can be anything doesn't matter if it is a saturated on. You can still make some money even though you won't get anywhere with the SE's for a while this is just something to practice and cut your teeth on. Jump right on in.

I'm sure I'll get some flaming feedback for this but here goes...

It's not the product that matters as much as your dedication to the project.

The skills you need are list building. That's putting it simply - a more detailed list would be:

    1) Building optin pages
    2) Copy writing for emails and optin pages
    3) Traffic Generation whether SEO or PPC

Once you have mastered those three skills, you can promote any affiliate product.

It reminds me of a story about a guy wanting to find water so he went around his 200 acre farm digging 100's of 10 foot wells. You can imagine what happened - he got no water. Then a wise person told him to stop wasting his time digging all those shallow wells - just dig one but DIG DEEP.

You have to FOCUS on one project, build a list building machine for it, and use emails to push prospects to the sales page. Once you have created one list building machine, repeat the process for antother product.

I've been researching all about online marketing and making money online for the past 4 months or so. I made a promise to myself not to spend anything on the subject, but just to read, read, and do more reading for the first 6 months. So I can tell you what I've found. I've found two really good sources of information. The first is a hold your hand ebook that is free. the-web-book.com (329 pages of real information). I would bet in fact that many of the successful marketers on here could learn a bit from this book. It will introduce you to all sorts of free software that you can use to get on track in making websites and all the basic stuff necessary to build a framework to market from. The other good source of information I've found is a hold your hand video series from a guy who has a pay membership site about online marketing. This is the only website from many I've visited that I am tempted to join but haven't yet. The video series is free and really good in showing you how to set up a basic website, a squeeze page, an autoresponder etc. These are the basic things you need for online marketing. Now having said all this I have not done much in setting up my frame work yet because of time more than anything. But when I do I will do the above. If I were you I'd build a website that you own and have a host package. Again I could recommend a good web host but I'm not sure if I can on here. One of the main things I think all the successful online marketers are using on here is a good autoresponder. Any decent autoresponder costs about 19 bucks a month. I have discovered how to have a good one for free as long as your web host supplies php and mysql. There are free php scripts for autoresponders available and all you do is set them up in a website. The web host I use costs 7.95. I host my own website for a manufacturing company I own so I've always had that cost.
If you want to know where to find the video series I'd be glad to forward anyone that URL via a private email here. There is a good thread here also I did find for newbies but I'm at a loss to find it again I'll keep trying.

I was in your position, trying to find out which direction to go. Here is a free way to find out what keyword to use and how to find out what your direct competition is.

    1. Look at your product that you are trying to promote and see what it is mainly about. Example: Super Ab Builder- Would be about -ABS

    2. Use google external keyword tool to find keywords for "abs". You will not be able to more than likely use abs by its self because of the competition, but you will be able to see if there are keyword phrases that you will be able to use or you may have to create our own keyword phrase.
    Example: "ABS"- is the topic
Google keyword tool gave you- "fast abs"
"fast abs" my have to much competiton so you create a new keyword phrase of "fast abs burn program"

    3. To find out what your actual competiton is just put your keyword in google search bar, but it must be in quotes. Example:"fast abs burn program" not fast abs burn program
This will give you the exact number of people using this keyword in their title.

4.The only thing left is to see how many backlinks the number one sites in google using your keyword has in order to see if you have a chance to compete with them and take their position. So if the number one site using your keyword term has 5 backlinks then you know you need to have 10 quality keyword rich backlinks to your site in order to take his position in google.

This is without PPC so you are not spending money.

Make a list of everything you could do.

Now give yourself five minutes. Set a timer.

Put all of them in order from the one you think will work best, to the one you think will work worst. It's okay if some of them are tied.

When the timer goes off, the top item on the list is what you should do. If there are other things tied with it, just pick one. Anything you forgot to write down doesn't count. Anything you didn't get ranked doesn't count.

Don't second-guess yourself or beat yourself up. I've been doing this for years, and the quality of the choices is no better or worse than the ones I spent weeks fretting about. I make the same number of mistakes, and I make the same number of correct decisions.

But I do it in FIVE MINUTES.

    Hello Eric,

I see you are commited to hard work, that's the hardest step. Now it's just a matter of persistence and believing in yourself. The number one secret in this industry is creating content every single day. So I really recommend that you do everything you can. Go out there and make blog postings, blog commenting, free advertising, PPC, newsletters , emails you name it. Do that and be good at it. Then you can go and market any product.

I hope my post helps you.

that is the hardest thing, coming up with all the content. Finding all really daunting at the moment. Filling up my site, keeping up with blogs, auto responder, articles, and yahoo answers. I am a bit burned out with content at the minute. Saying that I am finding it hard to stop. It is 11:55pm here now and I really should be going to bed, just one more auto responder email before I hit the hay.

I read and read and read for some time too.

But I didn't make a dime till I actually put some of that information to use, and put some
websites out on the internet, to really learn..

The goal should be to build the list.

Copywriting helps you achieve this goal (and much more) quicker.

Better copy = more signups = Faster list building

Awesome copy + Viral Marketing = Insane list building

Having your own product, and using JV's = near Instant list building.

Study copywriting, apply to listbuilding, apply to email and jv marketing, profit.
