Social network marketing..any good?

I have avoided the need to create a facebook account and my question is how effective are is your facebook accounts when it comes to bringing targeted traffic, and ultimately sales? I know twitter can be powerful, but I don't know how to build a list of followers genuinely interested in my products. I only know how to build a list of spammers, and I don't really care enough about it to buy all the books and products that help you with twitter.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

    Do not just concentrate on one service or network or SEO to get your traffic or rankings on Google. You will need to do multiple things to get the traffic or the ranking you want especially if you are in a competitive niche.

    I agree with Seveniam ... use social networking as part of your mix.

    I have lists on Facebook with thousands of members in some of the niches I am in. I try to get them onto my own lists as soon as possible.

    It's all about HOW you use it.

    For Twitter, try and network using the "Blogosphere" - commenting and locating blogs of people who may be in the market for your product. Most bloggers have a Twitter account, so there will be leads for your followers.

    And of course, Tweet often, but not too much. Also, engage yourself with your followers.

    thanks guys I will see if I can squeeze it in with all the other things I have to do. I hope I can start making more sales, so I can start outsource some of these other things make way to do social marketing things. I am swimming in a sea of content for 2 niche sites. ahhhh
