need a computer expert - HELP

I am getting messages in xp that indicate a "failure to save" error.

I have tracked it to an update I added to MS Office - I still use 2003 and added the conversion pack to access some files sent to me from 2007 word.

It did not install correctly and is causing errors. How can I uninstall that one update? It is error 1603 and in the events log on XP is showing errors in application and in system and they all come back to this one update from last week.

I am stuck! Please help!

Uninstall the update, Go to add remove programs, tick mark show installed updates and you should find the exact office update causing the problem.

After removing the update, select office 2003 and repair the installation.

Also this link How to troubleshoot an update installation by using log files in Office 2003 should be of some help,

I am not sure are you saying that with a patch your able to open word 2007 documents .docx with word 2003 ?

Word 2003 uses .doc as it's standard save format so maybe try that. Word 2003 doesn't recognise .docx as a word file I have found.

Try renaming the file when you save it using the .doc extension.

I hope this helps and works for you

    Best wishes

  • Ah yes, good old Microsoft and their ever-expanding backward compatibility issues.

Open Office is a hundred times better anyway, and it will open all your old MS Office files without a hitch. It even opens Word Perfect docs that I made back in '91. Yeah, and it even opens the spanking new .docx format Microsoft is trying to force on the world.

Yes - they have a patch....a bad one!

I didn't know open office would open .docx - I'll being using that tomorrow. For some reason I usually only use open office when I'm creating pdfs. Silly me!

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.
