Hello, I've been using Google Adwords combined with Google's "allintitle" function to find new keyword ideas. Using it for a while, though, I've found it to be pretty inconsistent. I find that when I type in Google allintitle: "keyword" it sometimes tells a number that is very, very low and sometimes. For example, I almost bought a domain centered around the keyword "glass coffee tables". In Google Adwords, it says that "glass coffee tables" is searched for in Google about 60,000 times per month. So, I typed in allintitle: "glass coffee tables" in Google and it said there were under 1,000 sites. But, the next day I typed in the same thing and it said there were about 1 million. Also I tried 2 keywords late last night(actually this morning before I went to bed) I found 2 different keyword phrases. One had 74,000 google searches per month and the allintitle: "keyword phrase" found 3,800 sites for it. But now it says it finds 729 sites for the exact same phrase. The other found 2,980 this morning and 449 now. Does anybody else find Google's "allintitle" function to be unreliable? Aaron T. |

Actually it's not just with the allintitle function. Standard search in quotes can be terribly inconsistent as well.

I agree, make sure you are getting exact matches. Also try intitle: "keyword" inanchor: "keyword" to know what your real competition is if you can get SEO optimized. |

Major changes happening last couple of weeks in G headquarters, so just maybe that is still screwed up. Or maybe they decided it was time to stop fooling us around with that stuff. |

The trick is to scroll through the pages of results. Watch to see if the numbers change. Also, see how many pages Google really delivers. I've had times when "6,500" pages suddenly stops at page 27, with no indication of supplemental results. In that case, it looks like they only had 270 or so results after all ![]() I think they do it to throw search engine optimizers off the scent. After all, how many ordinary searchers use intitle, inurl, intext, or inanchor? Probably very few. Only SEO types use them. |
