Reasons Why Image Aren't Clickable In PDF's?

Hi warriors,

I'm trying to create clickable hyperlinked images in microsoft word.

I have made the image hyperlinked as normal but when it's turned into a PDF it's not clickable anymore.

Does anyone know any possible reasons for this?

Craig

If you have the full version of Adobe PDF maker you can add clickable areas after you convert the word document. I've done that a few times and it's pretty easy.

Use Open Office instead. I tried it just now, made a pdf and the image was clickable.

Yeah open office does work great but the problem is when an ebook has been written in Microsoft word and you copy and paste everything over the formatting needs changing again.

Also if I copy say 96 pages into open office you end up with say only 92 pages, all the content is there but you have to send hours correcting everything which is time consuming and a real pain.

Thanks for sharing though guys :-)

We use OO 3.4.1 daily to convert Word Docs to PDF and none of what you describe is a problem. Maybe you have an older version?

In OO you first convert the Word doc to OO ODF format:
            1) Right-click the .doc and select open with OpenOffice.org Writer
            2) Save as: Use same or new name. Next window save in ODF format.
            3) To hyperlink an image or text simply select the image or text > Select: Insert in the main menu > Select Hyperlink > add the hyperlink.

            Done!

To create the PDF click the PDF icon in the top menu.

Comment: Open Office may seem like a lot of space on the hard drive, but it's free, and we work converting at least one or two Word Docs every day without any problems.

It's probably because of your PDF converter. Open Office is a good alternative

Open Office is an excellent choice if you don't have Word, but for those of us who do use Word it's a tad pointless downloading what is a very large file onto your computer just to use the converter.

I always use the Neevia converter for my files. I just don't see the point in buying something when something so useful is available.

      Your welcome Craig

In case anyone else stumbles on this post and is still looking - Just use PDF Printer Pro - it plugs right in to Word and appears as a tab. It takes a fraction longer to convert to PDF but ensures all links and images converted are linked and clickable. It was free when I downloaded. Good Luck!

It could be because you are not using the full version?
I found with the free version I was unable to use many of the features including hyperlinks and editing etc.

I think you should switch to web view and see what happens. Or you can use docs.google.com to do the job instead of Word.

    Craig,

A lot of early 3rd party PDF writers and printers didn't make ANYTHING clickable. MOST wanted URLs to be automatically detected, etc... So don't expect everything to work 100%.
