Default Hire Someone to Convert Blog from Blogger to WordPress?

I currently have my blog in Blogger (Blog Spot). It is about 4 months old at this point.

This is for my personal blog, which at this point is not being linked or fed back to any of my IM sites or information. Once I get it set up in WordPress then I will start working on using it as part of my linkwheel.

Does anyone here do that for a reasonable price -or perhaps know of a service that is reputable that will do that?

Thanks for the help!

Jen

Hey Jen,

Head over to Google and type in "import blogger into wordpress". You'll find quite a few resources there and it won't cost you anything ;-)

I second this comment. Importing your blogger should be an easy DIY job.

Well, Mike's a fine fellow, but I'm guessing he hasn't moved too many Blogger blogs. I've researched this stuff at length and done it a few times and can tell you that none of those directions you'll get from a Blogger search will tell you the right way to move a typical blog. If your blog entries have no images or internal links, you can easily import it into WordPress by going to Tools > Import in the WP Dashboard.

If you do have images, you'll need to move them all by hand. And you'll have to change all your internal links.

One thing many of the directions you find around the web discuss is setting up a redirect from Blogger. Blogger doesn't like this and will zap your blog if they catch you at it. The smartest way to move a blog from Blogger without loosing much search standing is to register a domain name and put it on the Blogspot site. You'll get traffic to both the old name and the new. After a few months of link revisions, move the blog.

Since yours hasn't been around that long, though, consider just leaving it as it is. Start a new blog at your own domain with WordPress. Make a final entry at Blogger that directs readers to the new blog. Also, put a link to it in the Blogger sidebar. You can always have a link page at the new site to articles at the old blog, if you wish. You'll be starting your new blog with existing site inlinks, too.

If you need more info, PM me.

Hmmm... well my blogger blog currently is on my own domain name already. I did that almost right away because I did not want a blogspot address.

I have hard the same thing you have Wade ...Google explains it plain and simple, but really you need someone who know what they are doing to set up everything first in WordPress correctly to be able to accept the imported information and also to export everything from Blogger.

I don't want to leave my Blogger site live and I don't want to lose the posts or data that I have there. I want it all integrated into one site on WordPress. I just purchased my own hosting account too so I should be able to host the WordPress blog myself as well. I just need someone who know what they are doing.

I am sure I can find someone by searching the Internet ... I just wanted to see if there was someone here in the forums first who could help me ... I would feel better about hiring someone from here to do it.

Well, the setup of WordPress to receive the Blogger XML files you refer to means setting up the permalinks at to match those of Blogger. There is a bit of a trick to it. If you'd like to contact me, my email and number are at this link:

Jen, hi,

These two articles may help - process for moving your blog:

http://www.wealthydragon.com/blog/20...-to-wordpress/

Process for re-directing your subscribers:

The comment from Wade about pictures is correct - but if you have the originals on your hard drive you can upload them again.

Cheers,

Martin.

I didn't do this for quite a long time... but even a few years ago (when everything was less user-friendly) I managed to move a blog with over 7,000 posts from blogger to a self-hosted WP.

Changing internal links and references to the images shouldn't be an issue since the invention of the search and replace plugin

I don't have time right now to deal with this kind of jobs but I think there should be active wordpressers who would know exactly how to do it.

Thanks! I found a great online company who took my order that I placed with them at 2:00 am ... and had everything finalized by 1:00pm .. the same day!

So I am now officially a blogger in Word Press ... now just to learn it!
