Best Way to Drive Traffic? (besides Google and Facebook)

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if anyone can provide insight... regardless of market, whether it's weight loss, making money, relationships, or anything else... cutting the easy answer of advertising on Google Ads or Facebook out of the equation... what is the best way of advertising on a shoestring budget that has the best chance of yielding the highest impact?

Thanks in advance.

If you can find a blog or website that is ranking in google that is in your niche that accepts advertising this would be what I would do.

Now, since you said you are on a shoe-string budget, I know that a lot of these types of blogs or websites charge good money, so another way of doing the same thing would be to contact these blogs and see if they accept guest posts--this will drive some good traffic back to your affiliate offers, website, etc.

Especially if you can get to the point where you are a regular guest poster.

    Hope this Helps.

If you have a small budget, I would suggest you avoid advertising. Look instead at SEO or videos on You Tube. I have never seen anyone get good results in marketing with a shoestring advertising budget.

You have to do several things to get traffic to your site; one magic bullet will not solve your problem. Here’s one way you can get people to come to your site or blog:

    Commenting On Other People’s Blogs

One of the fastest ways I’ve gotten traffic to my site is to leave comments on other people’s sites. Now having said that, I will tell you that this sounds easy, but it is an art.

If you think for a second you can just jump onto someone else’s site and leave a brief comment with some irrelevant links to your site, you’ve got another thing coming.

You have to do a few things first. So, here’s a way you can comment on other people’s sites and gain some traffic:

Step 1: Find 3 blogs that are highly relevant to your site. They need to be popular sites but not too popular. You want to get noticed on a sites that are up and coming and by entrepreneurs that are up and coming. You won’t have too much time to do this, so about 3 blogs will get you started.

Step 2: Write good solid comments. Add serious value to the blogs you comment on. If you can add a point or two or place some information in a gap that seemed to be missed, by all means do so. The better quality that you can leave on these comments; the more you’ll be seen as the “go-to-guy” by other readers.

Tip: always be humble and polite. You can save your arrogance for when you become the next big Guru.

Step 3: Comment as early as you can because earlier that you can comment on a post, the better. Readers will see you at the top of a comments page much easier. Get an RSS feed aggregate to alert you on when your target blogs have just posted so that you can get right on there and post early.

Tip: Don’t do this too much. The owner can tell that you’re being a “Johnny Jump Up Guru Wannabe” and get annoyed. Don’t always post long comments either. Try to vary them and make them shorter.
Personally, I only comment early when the post really resonates with me and when I’m real passionate about the subject matter.

Step 3: Don’t agreeable all of the time and if you do disagree then don’t be disagreeable. If you can point out something you disagree with, make sure you can back it up and do it without sounding like a jerk.

Step 4: Try to add a little personality to your comments. You don’t want to come off sounding like a text book. Throw a little humor in there and have fun.

This is just one method I use to get people to my blog. Actually, this is just a foundation for bigger things. If you comment enough, try to become friends with the key player or players.
If you get familiar with them and they like how you express yourself, they may ask you to guest post on their site, and that can lead to mega traffic.

    God Bless and Merry Christmas,

    Elmo

      Great advice!

      Few questions on this strategy:

Are you concerned with dropping backlinks in the comment or having backlinks in your profile / signature? How do the comment readers end up on your site (ie. clicking links, searching mentioned branded terms, etc.)? Are you going after search engine value or engagement via links in the comment or mix of both? I'd imagine most blogs restrict linking or only allow noindex / nofollow links. Thanks for sharing!

Watch this video. It's not mine and you don't have to pay for anything to implement the strategy.

The guy uses Twitter in a simple yet 'out of the box' way to get free targeted traffic to his offers.

Will it yield the highest impact?

No idea, but he seems to be profiting. As always you'll need to test it against your offers. But judging from the content and the responses of viewers (likes and comments), it looks promising. The guy seems genuine about his success with the strategy.

    Best of all...it's free traffic.

    Hope it helps!

    Get Social:
Its not enough to produce great content and hope that people find it you have to be proactive. One of the best ways to increase traffic to your website is to use social media channels to promote your content. Twitter is ideal for short, snappy (and tempting) links, whereas Google+ promotion can help your site show up in personalized search results and seems especially effective in B2B niches. If you are a B2C product company, you might find great traction with image-heavy social sites like Pinterest and Instagram.

    Drew,

While there are many free and paid techniques out there when it comes to driving traffic, you need to know one thing:

While any technique may work really well for one marketer, it may not work for you. That's why you have to test and see which ones work for you and which ones don't.

You want to track your own results and not rely on other marketers results.

There is not an answer to your question. It does not exist. No matter how we try it is not actually possible to know the best traffic source, it varies widely on offer, niche, website, content. When you are on a shoe-string budget and just starting out your best bet is using all the free traffic sources.

There is no best. You have to get out there and try yourself. The answers above me steered on the right track, because you still will be using the major common sources they listed. Instagram is doing alright for me if I had to pick one, but I am in your sitation as well.

I don't look for the best, but I put ALOT of effort into the top ones FB, Twitter, Pin, IG, website traffic, because I know they have the best chance. Reddit is also looking up now that I have built an account and found niches. My point is that if you are searching for the "BEST" because you feel like you need to make the most of your efforts even the best traffic source will likely not produce many results until you learn and test with it.

The best solution for me is to focus hard on a few traffic sources, but you need to try at least a few. What works for one person may not work for you. Your health blog might do great on pinterest for example, but terrible on another site.

The method that I feel drives traffic seemingly endlessly is a really good/long article with tons of keywords. This will get you ranked in the search engine and any time has the problem your product deals with they may happen to stumble upon the article.

I would say YouTube hands down. This is the age of video marketing and everybody just wants to sit back, watch and be entertained and learn about everything. You don't have to be a professional videographer to whip out some videos on for YouTube. There is free software available online to get you started or you can hire someone to make you some inexpensive videos for starters.

I've been very satisfied with Quuu Promote.

What it doesn't is basically to pimp your content into people's Buffer queues. So that's going out on all their social media: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.

I'm also a paying customer on the other side of Quuu (I got the WarriorForum deal). Where it auto fills my Buffer with relevant content for my niche.

Instagram shutouts. It doesn't matter which niche you're in, you can always find Instagram influencers who would allow you to post on their page for like $40. For that amount you can put your product in-front of at least 200K followers who really believe and trust to personality behind the page, so you get high quality clicks that trust you without even knowing who you are.

Give it a try, it's cheap and affordable.

Is a shoestring budget the same as saying 'no budget'? If you have no budget it's all about sweat equity so the best thing to do there is try several sources and track them all to see which give you the best results. Ramp up the source that is converting for you by doing more of the same on that platform.

Here's a few of my favorite strategies that require little to no budget. As long as you have the determination, some writing skills and some technical knowledge, this can work wonders and save you money:

A popular marketing strategy used by many ecommerce retailers is to build out an affiliate program. When you find partners to become affiliates, they can become advocates of your brand and help you gain exposure by promoting your brands through their own respective networks. Having a network of affiliates can help cover 10x more ground than you could single handedly (depending on how big you can grow your affiliates).

Another good strategy is find social media influencers who have a lot of reach/following in your target demographic or industry. A popular blogger or youtube star for example, with 100k to millions of viewers, can easily help your brand gain the appropriate exposure. It might be easier to start out with reaching out to micro-influencers that are on the rise. Reach out to the influencer and offer them a sample of your product and see if they will review it or tie it into their content somehow. When you gain more traction/recognition/budget you can try reaching out to "bigger" influencers.

The long-term strategy is to develop great content for SEO. If you have a lot of knowledge about a particular subject or your industry and the resources to consistently develop/publish new content on a blog for example, that will help your business/site rank in search engines and will both 1) establish you as an authority in the space and 2) serve as fish hooks in SERPs to pull in users to your site. This will definitely take time and is not a quick fix, but will work wonders for you over time. Developing unique and relevant content is a proven method that has worked time and time again.

    Hope that helps!

When it comes to advertising your business on a low budget without using Facebook or Google, there are several options at your disposal. Here are a few different ways that you can advertise quite cheaply.

    Email Marketing

Email marketing is a great way to build up business. Start out by sending an email to your current clients about your website. Ask your clients to forward the email onto their family, friends, and colleagues. If you are starting a new business and do not have any current customers you can send emails to people that you know that may be interested in what you are offering. Another option is to send an email to an opt-in list. These lists are made up of people or businesses that have requested information about certain topics. There are many companies that provide these opt in lists. Never send unsolicited emails to people that you do not know.

    Leads

There are companies out there that will provide you with prospects and leads for your business. You will have to pay a fee and the company will then display your ad for you. One nice thing about these leads is that they are targeted and you will only pay for people who want to know more about your business and what you offer.

    Link Exchanges

Look for websites and companies that complement yours and add them to your resource/links page. Contact the company and ask them to reciprocate. For example, if you are a baker that specializes in wedding cakes you could contact wedding dress designers, wedding venues, florists, etc. This will help your website become a valuable resource for your customers as it will provide them with information that they are going to need. They may even return to your site more than once to gather more information.

    Banners

You can create banners and exchange it with someone. You will display their banner on your site and vise versa. When someone clicks on the banner they will be taken to the advertised site. There are banner exchange programs that you can join to save time.

    Articles

One of the best ways to get free publicity is to write articles. It is free to get articles published and the publicity that you will receive by having it published on a website, in a magazine, or in a newspaper can be equivalent to thousands of dollars of advertising space. Well written articles will provide better results than any type of advertisement as they will earn you respect from consumers as they will see you as being an expert in your field. Articles should contain a solid headline that will grab the reader’s attention. Your lead paragraph needs to keep them wanting to read more. End the article with a call to action. If you are not a good writer, try hiring someone to write articles for you.

    Webrings

Webrings are an interesting way to advertise your site and bring in targeted traffic. Webrings allow visitors to search different sites that are related. These services are free for the owners, visitors, and members. Once you set up a webring it will bring targeted traffic to your site daily. Most webrings require little to no maintenance once you have set them up. These are just a few ways that you can advertise and target traffic to your website. All of these ideas do not cost very much, can have a big impact, and do not require you to use Facebook or Google.

Youtube is a great place to get traffic. And because Google owns Youtube, you can get on page 1 of Google without even trying.

If you can't make a video yourself, try this method. Find videos that have interesting information about your topic. They must be videos that don't have a link to any offers of any kind. They also need to be videos that have a lot of daily views. You then contact the owner of the video and compliment them on their video and ask if they would put your link on their video for a small fee.

There is a person whose name I won't mention, but is selling information on exactly how to do this. But it is just as simple as I've explained above.

Banner advertising is pretty good. I think YouTube is one of the most cost-effective and versatile ways to advertise whether you use ads, make your own vids or advertise in the comments. Twitter is another way of getting a good few sales a day because the traffic is targeted whether you search or use hashtags. Classifieds are a great way of getting leads too.

I don't understand why people make it so complicated when it comes to driving traffic. You simply don't need multiple traffic sources when starting out. Find just one; if you own a professionally designed website, then its more easier. Stick to just one marketing plan, the rest will follow on its own. Just drive traffic to your site with either paid or free methods, such as YouTube, once your visitors are there, you make them take actions (1) email subscription (2) social media shares (3) comments. Boom! You're done. The more they share via Facebook, twitter or pinterest, the more your organic reach. Now, Google is noticing you for your huge social signals, which means you get high quality, targeted seo traffic. So, you just need one traffic source not many. Once you build a few hundreds subscribers, then start email campaigns, and you get instant likes, shares and pins. Build fb page and post content there on a regular basis. This method is robust, fast and reliable.

In your content, use as many as images possible, at least two relevant video links and info-graphics. Longer the content, the better, but short to-the-point content also works. Make your website in rich user expereince, fix loading time and fill them with super quality content. That's it. Do not waster your time finding multiple traffic sources at a time. You'll be losing your precious time, but it may take a bit of your time to finding your primary traffic source; be it paid, YouTube, seo, fb or blog commenting.
